Senior Benefits & Compensation Specialist

Hungryroot is a remote-first, AI-driven consumer food and wellness company building personalized grocery, recipe, and supplement experiences. We seek a detail-oriented Senior Benefits & Compensation Specialist to own and optimize our benefits, compensation, HRIS, and compliance operations—helping ensure competitive, equitable programs and an excellent employee experience as the company grows.

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. benefits, leave laws, and compensation best practices
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS and benefits platforms and payroll integrations
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills with ability to translate data into recommendations
  • Vendor and project management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for employee education and leadership updates
  • Experience supporting audits and maintaining compliance (ACA, 1095-C, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Manage health, dental, vision, life, wellness, retirement (401k) and COBRA programs end-to-end
  • Own vendor relationships and resolve escalations with brokers, carriers, and payroll partners
  • Lead open enrollment planning, system configuration, communications, and employee education
  • Administer leaves of absence, FMLA, short-term disability, and related employee counseling and documentation
  • Support compensation strategy, role pricing, bonus calculations, and equity/grant administration
  • Provide compensation data, modeling, and reporting to HRBPs and leadership
  • Drive HRIS design enhancements for onboarding, comp/bonus workflows, and automation
  • Maintain employee data accuracy, generate reports, and manage integrations/data feeds
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and support audits
  • Develop clear employee communications and serve as primary contact for benefits/comp questions

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in HR, Business, or related field preferred
  • Relevant HR certifications (PHR, SHRM-CP) are a plus
