Manager, Total Rewards & People Operations

Follett Software builds technology to empower educators and improve student outcomes. We are looking for a hands-on People leader who combines empathy with strong analytical skills to design and operate benefits, compensation, and HR processes for a multi-state, largely-remote workforce. This role owns total rewards strategy and day-to-day people operations while managing a small team and partnering across the business to deliver high-touch, scalable HR services.

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of benefits programs, retirement plans, and benefits administration
  • Compensation design, market benchmarking, and salary structuring
  • HR operations and HRIS administration (e.g., Rippling, Lattice) and vendor management
  • Regulatory compliance expertise (FMLA, FLSA, ERISA, ACA, HIPAA)
  • Data analysis and reporting to inform rewards decisions and process improvements
  • High emotional intelligence, strong written and verbal communication, and stakeholder management
  • Experience using AI or automation tools to streamline HR workflows

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and refine benefits and compensation programs using data and benchmarking to ensure equity and market competitiveness.
  • Lead the full open enrollment cycle: vendor coordination, employee communications, execution and post-enrollment analysis.
  • Manage year-round benefits compliance and documentation, including use of systems and AI-assisted workflows to track deadlines and audits.
  • Oversee annual compensation cycles, bonus programs, market pricing, salary benchmarking, and job architecture updates.
  • Administer leaves of absence (FMLA, disability, parental, statutory leaves) and provide compassionate, compliant employee guidance.
  • Lead People Operations: maintain accurate processes, policies, HRIS, vendor relationships, and automation opportunities to scale operations.
  • Manage and develop a small People Operations team through coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Build repeatable calendars and processes for key HR cycles (open enrollment, merit, audits, compliance milestones).
  • Act as a high-touch resource for employees and managers, translating policies into clear guidance and identifying themes to improve programs.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (recruiting, finance, legal) to align rewards and operations with company strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement: identify bottlenecks, test assumptions, and implement better ways of working using data and AI where appropriate.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (required)
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, CCP) are a plus
