Director of People

Fast Forward accelerates tech nonprofits that build technology-driven solutions to urgent social problems. They seek a founding Director of People to build and lead the People function, design equitable systems and policies, and partner with leadership to strengthen culture, talent management, and organizational design while supporting portfolio nonprofits with HR best practices.

  • DEI-centered hiring and culture building
  • Manager coaching and employee relations
  • Experience with HR systems (Gusto or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Own the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, career growth, retention, policies, and employee relations.
  • Oversee payroll, benefits, compensation, and HR systems (Gusto) ensuring equitable practices.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and required trainings.
  • Partner with leadership on compensation decisions and organizational design.
  • Lead performance management cycles and develop career development frameworks.
  • Coach and develop managers and provide guidance on employee relations issues.
  • Design and implement initiatives to strengthen engagement, belonging, and recognition.
  • Support Fast Forward’s portfolio with People Ops guidance, training, and HR content.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • HR certification (SHRM, HRCI) a plus but not required
