Medical & Leave Technician

The City of Fort Worth Police Department is hiring a Medical & Leave Technician to support the Medical Records Unit (MRU) by administering medical and leave-related programs (FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, limited duty) and providing high-quality customer service to approximately 2,300 department personnel. The role requires strong administrative, case-management, and communication skills, attention to confidentiality, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, priority-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, review, and process medical documentation from providers, employees, insurers, and the City's TPA.
  • Administer and track leave and medical programs including FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, birth/bonding, and limited-duty processes.
  • Enter, update, and maintain employee medical and workers' compensation records in Excel and departmental databases.
  • Prepare and submit job injury and exposure reports to the TPA within required deadlines.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate workers' compensation timesheet and payroll issues with PD Payroll.
  • Communicate medical status updates to supervisors, Police Position Management, CPPT, City HR, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage case progress, follow up with employees and providers, and ensure timely updates.
  • Organize, log, and retain medical records according to the City's records retention schedules.
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering inquiries, resolving routine concerns, and referring complex issues appropriately.
  • Assist the Unit Supervisor and participate in assigned projects and initiatives.

Education

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Law, Medical Management, Business Administration, Medical Office Administration, or related field
  • Two years of clerical and administrative experience
