Assistant Vice President - Staff Development & Curriculum Design

Responsibilities

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Staff Development & Curriculum Design at The New York Foundling is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of comprehensive training programs and curricula that align with organizational goals and programmatic needs. The AVP will lead the staff development function to ensure quality service delivery, build staff capacity, and support the successful implementation of program models. This role requires a dynamic and experienced leader capable of managing high-performing teams, designing outcome-driven learning experiences, and providing expert support for evidence-based and evidence-informed practices.

 

Key Responsibilities 1. Team Leadership & Staff Management
  • Supervise and provide strategic direction to a team of curriculum designers, trainers, and staff development professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture aligned with The New York Foundling’s mission and values.
  • Provide professional development, coaching, and performance evaluations for direct reports to ensure continuous growth and effectiveness.
  • Ensure that staff development and training teams are effectively resourced and equipped to meet agency-wide training needs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify and address training needs across programs and functions.
2. Curriculum Development
  • Lead the design and development of engaging, culturally responsive, and evidence-informed training curricula for all levels of staff.
  • Create and maintain a training catalog that meets regulatory requirements, best practices, and internal standards for quality and impact.
  • Utilize adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to ensure high-quality learning experiences.
  • Evaluate and revise existing curricula based on feedback, outcomes data, and evolving programmatic needs.
  • Incorporate innovative learning modalities, including virtual, blended, and in-person formats, to meet diverse learner needs.
3. Program Training & Implementation Support
  • Lead the design and delivery of onboarding and ongoing training programs that support the successful implementation of program models.
  • Provide implementation support to program teams, including coaching, technical assistance, and fidelity monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance and program leadership teams to ensure training effectiveness and integration with broader performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop systems to track staff training completion, learning outcomes, and skill application in practice.
  • Facilitate learning communities and peer-to-peer coaching frameworks to support continuous improvement and staff engagement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, Social Work, Organizational Development, or a related field required.
  • 7+ years of experience in curriculum design, staff development, and training (within a human services or nonprofit setting).
  • 8+ years of leadership and team management experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and program implementation.
  • Strong project management, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of training and staff development.

 

Education Required

Masters’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution

Salary Range:

$120,000 - $130,000/year
