Position Overview:

The Sales Engineer is responsible for understanding and communicating the integration of Lightspeed solutions with various K12 technologies and applications, including but not limited to; software-based solutions, paging & intercom, phone systems, life safety/security, cameras, visual technologies (projectors and interactive flat panels), personal FM systems, and A/V control. This position will provide sales-focused technical support and acumen to our Account Executive and Sales Leadership team, and provide customized solution applications with a customer focus. This position may also be tasked with taking a lead role in business development within the Lightspeed distribution network. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides sales engineering and other technical leadership to the sales team. 
  • Consults and collaborates with Account Executives and Sales Leadership to understand customers’ technical requirements to promote the sale of appropriate company solutions. Responds to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs.
  • Contributes to team effort by deploying product evaluations for installed products.
  • Consults and collaborates with sales on our new construction sales process, including new construction software, AIA presentations, new construction sales stages, training, and bid stage response recommendations.
  • Collaborates with the Lightspeed Product Team regarding the installation and implementation feasibility of new products.
  • Provides consulting to customers, including school districts, school technical directors, and integrators, about products, services, equipment, as well as technical and engineering information. Analyzes cost-benefit ratios and proposes changes to equipment, supplies, or service applications in the customer environment.
  • Meets with architects, engineers, consultants, and school administrators to help them design buildings compatible with our equipment.
  • Relating field experience to identify short-term and long-range issues and opportunities that should be addressed; provides information and pertinent commentary; recommends options and courses of action; implements directives.
  • May provide on-site support for large installation projects, including using tools, in construction areas.

Qualifications

Position Must-Haves:

  • Able to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals and quickly build rapport and inspire trust with customers. 
  • Able to explain technology in a way that is appropriate and understandable to the audience.
  • Must possess strong virtual training abilities.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to shape data into useful reports.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office Suite (including PowerPoint and Visio), Zoom, Slack and other business software solutions.
  • Willingness to become proficient in ConstructConnect (New Construction Software), Salesforce, and. Concur.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage and complete multiple projects well.
  • Ability to interpret and create construction drawings.
  • 5+ years of relevant business experience in A/V, paging & intercom, phone systems, life safety, IP systems, software deployment or low voltage electrical, preferably within K12.
  • Experience working within the k-12 education environment.
  • Track record of resolving technical problems proactively and effectively. 
  • 30-50% travel time to customer locations in the West Region (occasional nationwide travel) to participate in sales presentations, demonstrate product, or otherwise assist in the sales process.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.

Position Nice-To-Haves:

  • Presales or sales experience is a plus.
  • Functional understanding of network environments is a plus.
  • Project Management / Integration experience is a plus.
