- Proficient CAD and strong engineering drawing capabilities
- Experience performing FEA and structural analysis for impact/ballistic scenarios
- Deep materials science knowledge relevant to ballistic protection (Kevlar, carbon fiber, ceramics)
- Hands-on prototyping and test execution experience
- Understanding of manufacturing processes for advanced composites and armor systems
- Human factors and ergonomic design for wearable systems
- Thermal and environmental effects on materials and assemblies
- U.S. person and eligible to attain U.S. security clearance
Responsibilities
- Design and qualify a lightweight ballistic helmet shell meeting military ballistic and environmental requirements
- Perform materials selection and structural analysis (FEA) to validate helmet performance under impact and stress
- Develop and iterate prototypes; lead hands-on prototyping, evaluation, and test campaigns
- Balance ballistic protection with ergonomics, fit, thermal management, and integration of sensors/compute
- Define and document engineering drawings, specifications, and test procedures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electronics, human factors, manufacturing, test) to ensure system integration
- Support military qualification efforts and compliance with MIL-STD and related specs
Education
- BS, M.Eng, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
- 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience (preferably with ballistic or wearable systems)
