Magic’s mission is to build safe AGI that accelerates humanity’s progress on the world’s most important problems. We believe the most promising path to safe AGI lies in automating research and code generation to improve models and solve alignment more reliably than humans can alone. Our approach combines frontier-scale pre-training, domain-specific RL, ultra-long context, and inference-time compute to achieve this goal.
About the role:
As a Technical Sourcer at Magic, you’ll be at the forefront of building the team that builds AGI. You’ll partner closely with our recruiting, technical leadership, and research teams to identify, engage, and attract exceptional technical talent across AI research, and engineering. You’ll own the top of the recruiting funnel, drive creative sourcing strategies, and help us build a world-class network of people.
What you might work on:
Build and manage robust pipelines of top technical talent across research, engineering, and infrastructure roles
Partner with hiring managers and recruiters to deeply understand role requirements and candidate profiles
Design and execute creative sourcing strategies for both high-volume and hard-to-fill roles
Leverage multiple sourcing channels (LinkedIn, GitHub, publications, conferences, communities, etc.) to identify exceptional candidates
Engage with candidates who have experience in AI, deep learning, and large language models
Develop outreach that authentically represents Magic’s mission and technical challenges
Track sourcing metrics and continuously optimize processes for speed and quality
What we’re looking for:
Strong technical fluency: you’ve either worked in a technical role yourself or can confidently assess technical talent. Some of our team used to be engineers and we code solutions when needed
Context Switching: one week we will need 4k unique outreaches from you. Next week, we will need you to map esoteric research papers from PhDs 2 years out. You should be able to do both easily.
Deep sourcing expertise, with experience identifying and engaging technical candidates at scale. Or prove that you can do this.
Familiarity with AI, machine learning, and ideally large language models. We read all the latest research papers and attend the top AI-conferences on behalf of Magic
Strong communication skills and the ability to tell Magic’s story in an inspiring way
Proven ability to manage multiple searches simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities
Experience in a fast-paced startup or high-growth environment
Nice to have:
Previous experience recruiting for AI, ML, and niche technical roles
Hands-on familiarity with sourcing tools, data enrichment, and automation
Network within the AI or ML community
Our culture:
Integrity: Words and actions should be aligned
Hands-on: At Magic, everyone is building
Teamwork: We move as one team, not N individuals
Focus: Safely deploy AGI. Everything else is noise
Quality: Magic should feel like magic
Compensation, benefits, and perks (US):
Annual salary range: $150K - $260K (depending on experience)
Equity is a significant part of total compensation, in addition to salary
401(k) plan with 6% salary matching
Generous health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
Unlimited paid time off
Visa sponsorship and relocation stipend to bring you to SF, if possible
A small, fast-paced, highly focused team
If an employer mentions a salary or salary range on their job, we display it as an "Employer Estimate". If a job has no salary data, Rise displays an estimate if available.
