Program Manager - Technical Writing

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Program Manager - Technical Writing in the United States.

As a Program Manager for Technical Writing, you will lead the strategy, execution, and scaling of enterprise-level technical documentation programs. This role provides the opportunity to guide a team of Senior Technical Writers and Technical Writers, shaping the creation, delivery, and maintenance of clear, high-quality documentation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, operations, and marketing, to ensure documentation aligns with business goals and user needs. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, has strong leadership and communication skills, and excels at optimizing workflows and implementing innovative solutions to support global programs. Your work will directly influence user experience, team growth, and organizational efficiency.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the strategic implementation and governance of technical documentation programs.
  • Plan, document, and optimize end-to-end documentation lifecycle processes.
  • Act as the primary liaison for internal stakeholders and clients regarding documentation initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate program or project-level risks while maintaining robust communication plans.
  • Conduct formal business reviews and track KPIs/SLA attainment for assigned functions.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate technical writing teams to ensure effective delivery of content.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical communication and program management.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, Communication, Journalism, or a closely related field.
  • 3–5 years creating and managing production-level technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • 1–3 years managing, mentoring, and coaching teams of technical writers.
  • Experience designing and implementing content strategies, information architecture, and documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with project management frameworks (Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and provide clear feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze risks, make data-informed decisions, and develop effective solutions.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of fostering a positive and productive team environment.
