Program Director-Medical Leave of Absence

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Program Director – Medical Leave of Absence in United States.

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Program Director to lead the management of medical leave, disability, and accommodation programs. In this role, you will oversee a high-performing team responsible for delivering compliant, client-focused leave services. You will partner with stakeholders to design and implement operational strategies, drive performance improvements through data and analytics, and ensure exceptional client and employee experiences. This position requires strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills to manage complex operational challenges while mentoring colleagues. Operating in a remote-first environment with periodic travel, you will influence organizational culture, implement best practices, and optimize processes across multiple teams.

Accountabilities:

The Program Director will be responsible for the end-to-end management of leave and disability programs, ensuring operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading and managing all aspects of Short-Term Disability (STD), Family Medical Leave, company leaves, and medical accommodations.
  • Driving a culture of excellence, resulting in high client satisfaction and internal team engagement.
  • Developing and executing innovative operational strategies using data and analytics to measure and improve performance.
  • Overseeing financial and contract management, including negotiations and budget oversight.
  • Ensuring effective systems of regulatory compliance and internal controls are maintained.
  • Recruiting, managing, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing team.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners, including IT, Customer Service, Finance, Compliance, Account Management, and Clinical leadership.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for client leadership and maintaining strong relationships.

Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience in absence and disability management and proven leadership capabilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of disability, leave concepts, claim management practices, and relevant regulations.
  • 7+ years of operations or service delivery experience in absence, disability, or benefits administration.
  • 3+ years in a senior leadership role, including experience managing diverse teams and motivating staff, including clinical personnel.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology, data, and analytics to drive operational efficiency and performance.
  • Experience implementing performance management cycles, establishing metrics, and ensuring accountability.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for clinical or health-related backgrounds.
  • Ability to work remotely and travel periodically to client offices and other locations as required.
  • Competitive base salary range: $198,000 – $242,000 USD.
