SME Sales Engineer

Canopy is a fast-growing SaaS company building a modern Practice Management Suite for accounting firms. We seek an Accounting Subject Matter Expert to join our Sales Engineering team who can translate firm workflows into tailored product demos, partner with Account Executives across the sales cycle, and act as a trusted advisor for prospective customers. The ideal candidate has 3+ years working in a mid-sized or larger accounting firm and is passionate about leveraging technology to improve firm operations.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of accounting firm workflows, client service models, and common pain points.
  • Strong presentation and demo delivery skills with the ability to customize messaging by prospect.
  • Comfort configuring SaaS demo environments and mapping prospect data to product features.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to simplify complex concepts.
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Marketing.
  • Quick learner with a passion for technology and customer-first problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Executives to support the full sales cycle, focusing on technical validation and solution alignment.
  • Deliver tailored, data-driven product demonstrations that map to prospect workflows and outcomes.
  • Configure and customize demo environments to showcase client-specific use cases.
  • Rapidly build deep expertise in Canopy’s platform, industry trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Translate complex capabilities into clear, outcome-oriented messaging for firm leaders.
  • Answer technical questions, address objections, and act as a trusted advisor during evaluation.
  • Assist with RFP responses, technical documentation, and competitive positioning when needed.
  • Provide structured feedback from prospects to Product and Customer Success teams to influence roadmap and onboarding improvements.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Product, and Marketing to refine demo scripts and messaging.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant professional experience at a mid-sized or large accounting firm (3+ years) is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications (CPA, or related) are a plus but not required for the role.
