Principal Navigation Engineer
Skills
- Deep knowledge of inertial navigation, GNSS, and navigation system design
- Expertise in Kalman filtering, Extended Kalman filtering, and estimation theory
- Proven experience in covariance analysis and uncertainty modeling
- Experience integrating multi-sensor fusion (INS, GNSS, camera, sonar) for maritime or aerospace systems
- Experience with real-time/embedded systems and GNC software development
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and systems engineering abilities
- Ability to lead technically and influence cross-functional teams and customers
Responsibilities
- Define navigation system architecture and requirements across the maritime portfolio
- Lead navigation strategy, roadmap, and solution architecture for maritime products
- Design, develop, integrate, and test INS for maritime vehicles
- Develop and implement estimation algorithms (e.g., EKF) and sensor-fusion methods using INS, GNSS, cameras, sonar, and other sensors
- Apply covariance analysis and error modeling to optimize system performance and derive early requirements
- Evaluate and integrate alternative navigation aiding sources and transfer alignment techniques
- Adapt real-time pose localization techniques from robotics where applicable
- Architect and improve sensor calibration procedures and integrate navigation stacks with multidisciplinary teams
- Drive rigorous simulation and testing using Anduril’s GNC and simulation infrastructure
- Represent maritime constraints in company-wide navigation community of practice and mentor teammates
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
- Advanced degree preferred but not required if experience demonstrates equivalent capability
