Senior Sales Engineer

Position Overview

OpenObserve is seeking a dynamic Senior Sales Engineer to bridge the gap between our cutting-edge observability platform and customer success. This role combines technical expertise with customer-facing skills to drive both pre-sales and post-sales success. You'll work closely with our sales team to architect tailored observability solutions and guide customers through implementation and optimization of their monitoring infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales Technical Leadership

  • Partner with sales teams to understand customer requirements and technical challenges

  • Conduct technical discovery sessions to assess current observability maturity and infrastructure

  • Design and present comprehensive observability architectures tailored to customer environments

  • Lead technical demos, proof-of-concepts, and pilot implementations

  • Address technical objections and provide expert guidance during the sales process

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to communicate customer feedback and requirements

Post-Sales Implementation & Success

  • Guide customers through onboarding and implementation of OpenObserve

  • Develop detailed technical implementation plans and migration strategies

  • Provide architectural guidance for optimal data ingestion, storage, and visualization patterns

  • Conduct technical workshops and training sessions for customer teams

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and optimize performance

  • Ensure successful adoption and value realization from OpenObserve platform

Customer Relationship Management

  • Serve as trusted technical advisor throughout the customer lifecycle

  • Build strong relationships with customer technical teams and stakeholders

  • Identify expansion opportunities and additional use cases

  • Advocate for customer needs internally and influence product roadmap

  • Document best practices and create reusable implementation frameworks

Required Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • 5+ years of experience in solution architecture, sales engineering, or customer-facing technical roles

  • Deep understanding of observability, monitoring, and logging ecosystems

  • Hands-on implementation experience with OpenObserve platform including data ingestion, querying, and dashboard creation

  • Practical experience implementing OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing, metrics collection, and observability instrumentation

  • Production-level experience with Prometheus including configuration, alerting rules, and integration patterns

  • Hands-on experience with complementary observability tools (Grafana, ELK Stack, Jaeger, Zipkin, etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices architectures, and DevOps practices

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code tools

Business & Communication Skills

  • Proven track record in technical sales support or customer success roles

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts

  • Experience working with enterprise customers and understanding their operational challenges

  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple customer engagements

  • Customer-centric mindset with focus on driving value and positive outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced expertise in OpenObserve deployment patterns and optimization techniques

  • Deep experience with OpenTelemetry SDKs across multiple programming languages and frameworks

  • Expert-level Prometheus configuration including federation, high-availability setups, and performance tuning

  • Background in SaaS or open-source software companies

  • Previous experience in forward deployment or implementation roles

  • Familiarity with compliance requirements (SOC2, GDPR, HIPAA) in enterprise environments

  • Experience with time-series databases and high-scale data processing

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

Salary

$200,000-$250,000 base salary plus stock options

Travel Requirements

This role requires approximately 25-30% travel for customer meetings, conferences, and on-site implementations.
