Coord Program Trauma - Trauma Services - PRN

Overview

Responsible for clinical, consultative and educational activities that identify and facilitate trauma processes and promote staff education.  Guides the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of the trauma program under the supervision of the Trauma Program Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.  Works closely with other clinical areas, ancillary departments, and pre-hospital personnel to ensure consistency and quality of care for the trauma patient. This position is responsible for communication of resource needs across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

1. Utilizing best practice guidelines, the Trauma Program Coordinator organizes the development,implementation and evaluation of clinical trauma education programs.a. This includes: Impact of Trauma, Trauma Procedure Class, ABCDE/REBOA Workday,Shock-Trauma Conferences, Trauma Skills Fair, Disaster Preparation, Stop the Bleedtraining, TQIP meetings, TNCC, Trauma Basics, and Trauma Refresher Class.

2. Develops and maintains trauma clinical competency requirements for designated trauma clinicalareas

3. Maintains compliance of JCAHO clinical standards for staff

4. Monitors and maintains awareness of assigned trauma departmental needs.

 

5. Provides education on new developments in the area of trauma care

6. Adheres to updated and ongoing trauma practices.

7. Monitors employee trauma performance through visual observations in level 1 and level 2 Traumaalerts within the Emergency Department

8. Conducts reviews of trauma documentation to ensure accuracy and completion

9. Serves as a resource to the Emergency Department Leadership Team and a role model to staff

10. Mentors employees by providing guided instruction on trauma processes and procedures.

11. Assists the department with needs to ensure continual trauma readiness is achieved according toACS/ATLS/TNCC/PALS/Trauma Procedures/Advanced Trauma Competency standards

12. Collaborates and participates in performance improvement with Emergency DepartmentEducators

13. Completes annual requirements within specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Graduate of an accredited college or university, bachelor degree preferred; Current Alabama nursing license; ACLS, TNCC and PALS certification required or must be obtained within the first year of employment (Instructor preferred); Red Shirt Trauma Trained Nurse (preferred)

 

Experience: Minimum of five years experience as a staff nurse in an emergency department or trauma center; Recent management and/or instructor experience required; Specialty experience in emergency medicine and trauma care preferred

 

Additional Skills/Abilities: Exceptional communication skills; Ability to work in a fast paced environment; Excellent critical thinking, analytical, teaching, and research skills; Exceptional organizational skills; Effective time management skills
