Solutions Engineer - Commercial (Expansion Sales)

Tailscale is a fully distributed company building a secure, easy-to-use modern networking layer used by individuals and enterprises. We're looking for a Commercial Solutions Engineer to partner with Account Executives to drive new business, lead technical discovery and architecture, and act as a trusted advisor to customers across networking and security use cases.

Skills

  • 4+ years in customer-facing SE or SA roles within networking or security software
  • Proven experience co-owning pipeline and influencing quota outcomes with sales teams
  • Deep knowledge of zero-trust networking, secure connectivity, and IAM integrations (SSO, SAML, OIDC)
  • Hands-on cloud architecture experience (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure)
  • Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls) and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical features into business value
  • Experience working in high-growth or startup environments

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Executives to identify, qualify, and close Commercial opportunities
  • Lead technical discovery, solution architecture, demos, and proof-of-concepts to accelerate customer decision-making
  • Manage complex, multi-stakeholder deals aligning technical and business objectives
  • Provide structured product and GTM feedback to influence roadmap and strategy
  • Create scalable enablement resources, demo environments, and solution blueprints for the SE team

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Relevant professional certifications or continuous technical training preferred
