Retail Director

Story Cannabis is a vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis operator founded in 2021, focused on building a growth-oriented, values-driven retail brand. The Retail Director will drive operational excellence and consistency across retail stores nationwide, translating corporate strategy into scalable SOPs, compliance standards, and performance management while coaching regional and district leadership.

  • Cannabis POS and seed-to-sale systems (e.g., Dutchie, Metrc, Treez)
  • SOP creation, audit programs, and compliance execution
  • Operational and financial analysis with data-driven decision making
  • Cross-functional stakeholder management and influence
  • Team coaching, performance management, and succession planning
  • Change management and process improvement
  • Ability to travel regularly

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Regional, Retail Operations leaders, and District Managers; build succession plans and bench strength
  • Define and enforce national retail operational governance, SOPs, audit programs, and compliance standards
  • Translate corporate retail strategy into scalable processes and ensure field execution and alignment
  • Analyze sales, labor, and margin data to drive performance improvements and corrective action plans
  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Merchandising, HR, Compliance, IT, Finance, and Supply Chain
  • Oversee POS, inventory, and compliance systems to ensure accuracy, adoption, and audit readiness
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and labor optimization efforts tied to financial targets
  • Enable regional leadership to resolve operational issues and limit direct store-level interventions
  • Travel regularly to support markets, audits, and leadership development as needed

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Marketing, or related field preferred
  • Relevant compliance or retail operations certifications a plus
