Sr. Structural Engineer, Structural Test (Starship)
Skills
- Design and analysis of large steel and concrete structural systems
- Experience with nonlinear structural analysis methods
- Fabrication planning and on-site construction support
- Familiarity with AISC, ACI 318, ASCE 7, and IBC guidance
- Proficiency with structural analysis/FEA tools (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, ANSYS)
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments and at heights
- ITAR eligibility (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or ability to obtain required authorizations
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and analyze large steel and steel-reinforced concrete structural test systems to apply flight-like loads to Starship test articles
- Collaborate with vehicle and test engineers to develop test structures from concept through fabrication and installation
- Consider boundary conditions, load paths, and stiffness interactions between test structure and vehicle
- Perform fabrication planning, produce drawings/specs, and provide on-site fabrication and installation support
- Develop fast-to-build, cost-effective, and iteration-friendly structural solutions under aggressive schedules
- Support site testing, instrumentation interfaces, and troubleshooting during test execution
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (required)
- Advanced degree in aerospace, civil/structural, mechanical engineering, or related field (preferred)
