Payroll Risk & Compliance Expert - Canada

Remote is a global HR platform company enabling compliant international employment and payroll. They seek a Payroll Risk & Compliance Expert with deep expertise in payroll, employment, and tax compliance, to lead audits, shape governance frameworks, and mentor compliance teams across multiple countries or regions.

  • Expert knowledge of payroll, employment, and tax compliance in multiple countries or regions.
  • Proven leadership in complex audits and regulatory or cross-border compliance programs.
  • Strong strategic communication and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Mentorship and coaching experience with capability development.
  • Systems thinking to scale solutions and frameworks.
  • Adaptability to ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
  • Experience working with async, multicultural, and remote-first teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex audits and compliance initiatives across multiple countries or domains ensuring 100% on-time delivery.
  • Design and implement three or more scalable compliance best practices or frameworks annually.
  • Ensure over 95% alignment with compliance policies across countries and markets.
  • Resolve all high-priority risks and issues within six weeks and embed learnings proactively.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accessible core compliance documentation quarterly.
  • Resolve at least 95% of Payroll Operations queries within SLA and improve first-time resolution.
  • Deliver at least four documented mentorship or coaching sessions annually.
  • Publish or co-author high-impact compliance articles and lead external speaking engagements.
  • Achieve 90% positive feedback from cross-functional stakeholders on compliance partnership.
  • Tailor enablement and communication materials to support quarterly coaching and upskilling.

Education

  • Relevant higher education or equivalent experience in compliance, payroll, taxation, or related fields.
