The high level:

The National Development Operations Director (DOD) will play a critical role in supporting Reading Partners’ annual revenue goal ($33M+) by overseeing best-in-class development operations for the organization. Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer (CGO) and working closely with the regional operations team, regional teams, finance, and accounting team team the DOD will lead all aspects of fundraising operations including: 1) organizational revenue tracking, reporting, and analysis, 2) managing a team to oversee the accuracy of the fundraising database of 12,000+ donors/prospects and provide high quality support to fundraisers across the network, 3) revenue budgeting models and analyses for annual and multi-year planning, and 4) financial and fundraising systems and processes integration. The National Development Operations Director will manage a Development Operations Manager.

Location: This position is remote but requires candidates to reside within one of Reading Partners’ operating locations: Baltimore, MD, Charleston, SC, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY, North Texas (Dallas and Fort Worth), San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Seattle, WA, Twin Cities, MN, Tulsa, OK, and Washington, D.C. There is a preference for New York City, NY, Baltimore, MD, or Washington, D.C.

What you’ll do:

Lead organizational revenue tracking, reporting, and analysis

  • Lead all national and regional revenue reporting, tracking, and analysis towards ~$33M annual unrestricted money goals
  • In partnership with the CGO, make data-driven recommendations on revenue risk, gaps, and trends and create internal presentations and summaries to communicate progress to goal 
  • Lead monthly revenue forecast and cashflow integration with the Finance and Accounting team, ensure alignment between national development, Regional Operations, and Finance and Accounting team on revenue forecast for all streams and risk
  • Oversee the accuracy of all fundraising data in Salesforce database in order to develop and maintain a predictive revenue forecast model. 
  • Pilot and build new sophisticated reporting models, dashboards, and analyses that inform data-driven revenue strategies. 
  • Build reports and conduct analysis for the Executive Team, regional, finance, regional operations, and national development teams on a regular basis to ensure the organization is in a strong financial position. 

Lead the Development Operations team to ensure excellent development operations across the organization and provide high-quality support to fundraisers by coordinating network training and professional development, and individualized development operations support

  • Oversee fundraising database (12,000+ donors/prospects) accuracy by leveraging Salesforce to ensure best-in-class data management and integration as it relates to donor, donation, and relationship tracking 
  • In partnership with national development and Regional Operations, train development staff and Executive Directors on the revenue and cash forecast model, budgeting, and development operations
  • Drive and architect Salesforce enhancement projects to support fundraisers in collaboration with the National Development Operations Manager and the Salesforce Admin
  • In collaboration with the Salesforce Administrator, serve as a Salesforce business analyst; work with regional and national fundraising teams to analyze business processes and help design, implement, and optimize Salesforce solutions that support organizational goals and enhance user experience
  • Manage the team to:Assemble donor lists for annual report, annual appeal, and other requests
  • Oversee data integrity of the fundraising Salesforce database by auditing data, managing or creating auditing reports, devising policies, collaborating with the Salesforce team to implement database infrastructure enhancements as needed, and communicating changes and resources to the field
  • Refine system for fee-for-service (FFS), local government, and AmeriCorps grant tracking in partnership with the finance and regional operations teams
  • Ensure smooth operational function of systems that interact with RP’s Salesforce database (i.e., online giving system (Classy), prospect screening (DonorSearch), Conga Composer)
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding of schedule of new development staff as they join the Reading Partners network 

 Lead revenue budgeting models and analyses

  • In partnership with the CGO and Regional Operations, refine revenue projection model for annual budget 
  • Lead revenue budgeting for the entire organization (all regions and national), including partnering with the Finance team on smooth project management, and partnering with Regional Operations to ensure all Executive Directors and regional staff are trained and supported on implementation
  • Conduct risk assessment and analysis for the national board, to ensure informed budget adoption  
  • In partnership with the CGO, Chief of Staff, finance, and regional operations team, develop a multi-year revenue model to create budgets that support multi-year and advance fundraising and our next strategic plan

Lead financial and fundraising systems and processes integration (including Salesforce and budgeting software, Adaptive), and Intacct. 

  • Oversee revenue reconciliation with the accounting and finance team and systems to ensure systems tie-out
  • Oversee system to accurately track temporarily restricted net assets (TRNA) revenue release and new TRNA bookings
  • Liaise with finance on to ensure integration of revenue into Adaptive.

Leadership & Management:

  • Summarize trends and create analyses for national board, executive team, and organization
  • Refine complex revenue financial models for forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and budgeting across 9 portfolios. Establish benchmarks, and predictive forecast modeling to create sustainable plans.
  • Demonstrate a hunger to learn, grow, support, and add great value. Regularly seek to understand all aspects of our finance and business model. 

Relationship Development:

  • Internally, establish highly collaborative relationships with all team members, including national development, the Regional Operations team, finance and accounting team, IT team, and other national departments
  • Demonstrate ability to train and collaborate with development staff members on revenue model, budgeting, and analyses, systems and reports
  • Build collaborative relationships with national teams and ability to influence and motivate colleagues to cross-cutting project outcomes
  • Model a highly collaborative approach to fundraising and operate from a REDI lens (racial equity, diversity and inclusion)

Operations / Systems Management

  • Oversee implementation and management of complex systems and databases - ensuring fundraising and financial databases align, accuracy of fundraising database, so that organization executes best in class cultivation and stewardship of donors 
  • Recommend and implement new systems as needed (for high level summary reporting, event tracking, online giving, etc.)
  • Demonstrate a strong detail orientation, accuracy, and ability to develop compelling reports and communications to be used internally and externally. Execute all work in a highly organized, analytical, and data driven manner.
  • Create clear project plans with diligent implementation making sure all assigned projects are thoroughly completed on time. Identify and communicate to all contributors, deadlines and expectations before and during the project. Understand vision and distill it into actionable and manageable pieces.

About you!

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

  • 5+ years of experience in development and fundraising operations management with 1+ years of supervisory experience
  • Can successfully manage people in operations, a large fundraising database, and online campaigns
  • Have expertise in non-profit financial systems (including accrual based accounting, classification, and management of restricted grants, statements of activities, etc.)
  • Have technical expertise in managing a Salesforce database, online donation, and event fundraising software
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience navigating high-level stakeholders to problem solve and lead through complexity. 
  • Are a self-starter with a focus on results and the ability to persevere through challenges to reach goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

  • Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age.
