Senior Compensation Analyst, Faculty and Clinicians

Department Overview

The OHSU Practice Plan (OPP), along with the School of Medicine (SoM) and clinical service lines, is part of the health care delivery system at OHSU Health. The goal of the OPP is to establish and maintain the OHSU Health System as a premier academic clinical practice. In order to attain this goal, the OPP will support and coordinate the professional practice of the group and each of its component parts, promoting the development of clinical programs within and across all relevant departments of the SoM. The OPP supports approximately 2,600+ clinical faculty, clinical associates and APP's within OHSU Health, has revenue of ~ $675 million and just over 1 million ambulatory visits.

 

The Senior Compensation Analyst provides professional level assistance and leadership in the development, installation, cost analysis and administration of compensation programs and incentive plans for the faculty and clinician roles in the School of Medicine. These responsibilities will include analysis, implementation, and coordination of provider compensation and clinical incentive processes in a complex, matrixed academic medical center. This position requires close collaboration with leaders in the clinical and basic science departments within the School of Medicine and across the health system including members of the Provost’s office, Human Resources, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Technology, and other related departments to implement efficient and scalable business processes that are well understood.

 

The Senior Compensation Analyst, Faculty and Clinicians, SoM is responsible for 1) supporting clinician compensation administration and operations, 2) implementing and integrating compensation processes with associated administrative processes, 3) ongoing process evolution and change management, 4) managing inquiries and appeals related to the OHSU Faculty Compensation Plan, APP compensation framework, and OHSU Clinical Associates compensation framework, and 5) participating in relevant compensation surveys for associated positions.

Function/Duties of Position

1. Supporting administration and maintenance of faculty and clinician compensation plans

  • Develops and oversees reliable, timely, and efficient processes for managing faculty and clinician compensation arrangements in accordance with established compensation policies.
  • Ensures processes and procedures necessary for the administration of clinician compensation models are well understood by all stake holders.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the organization related to clinician compensation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the organization regarding rules, regulations, standards, and emerging trends impacting clinician compensation arrangements including relevant fair market value regulations. 

2. Implementing and integrating compensation processes with associated business processes

  • This position requires communication and coordination with senior management across the enterprise including leadership in the OHSU Practice Plan, Academic Departments, Provost’s Office, Human Resources, Research Administration, Finance, Information Technology and other departments as needed.
  • Serves as a business process expert on system-wide provider compensation arrangements.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for department administrators supporting School of Medicine faculty and providers.
  • Is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing processes and procedures related to physician compensation policies and methodologies.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact in collaborating with the IT Business Intelligence team on the development of provider compensation and productivity analytical and benchmarking tools.

3. Ongoing process evolution and change management

  • Direction, support and guidance for the ongoing analysis and management of the faculty compensation plan.
  • Supporting educational needs and answering questions regarding changes to compensation methodologies and/or regulations.
  • Prepare feasibility studies on the implementation of physician compensation plan changes including recommendations as to the feasibility and impact of proposed changes.
  • Responsible for communications and education sessions for department, divisional, and sectional administrative leadership regarding all compensation plan changes.
  • Provide compensation plan expertise in business process integration, operation and communication efforts related to faculty compensation.
  • Partner with clinical operational leadership to identify best practice improvements that align with provider and payer incentives.

4. Other duties as assigned including compensation and human resources support. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance or related field, or equivalent education or experience. 

  • Five years of physician and APP compensation experience.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while prioritizing and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Customer-service focused and ability to interact professionally with senior leadership, and faculty members.
  • Ability to maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including physicians, hospital and medical group administration, and compensation staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or a related field
  • Experience in a large, multi-specialty physician group or academic medical center.

  • Familiarity with wRVUs and revenue cycles in a clinical/healthcare setting.

  • Prior experience using AAMC, Sullivan Cotter, and MGMA compensation surveys or similar benchmarking and compensation surveys.

  • Prior experience with ORACLE or similar HRIS

Additional Details

Professional office environment with hybrid (remote and in-person) work schedule; may include some travel; business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with the possibility of meetings outside of the standard business hours.
