Our People Programs team manages cross-functional and company-wide programs ranging from performance and talent management, employee listening, and career growth/development across OpenAI.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced People Programs Manager to join our small team as a strong individual contributor. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and driving the execution of complex talent programs across our People team. These programs can include performance management, employee listening, and other foundational, cross-functional programs that support the company and its employees.
You’ll be a strategic partner in designing and iterating our core People programs to be fit for OpenAI, balancing flawless execution with strategic orientation. While some traditional industry practices will be useful, success in this role will require a deep understanding of our people and culture in order to craft effective, people-first strategies that support both our growth and the employee experience.
You’ll work closely with HRBPs, L&D, Recruiting, Total Rewards and other cross-functional partners to ensure talent initiatives are scalable, aligned with our values, and tailored to the needs of our unique and fast-evolving organization. This role reports to our Head of People Programs.
You’ll Responsibilities:
Performance Management Program: Drive our cyclical performance evaluation process, from design to build to execution, in partnership with HRBPs and other People teams (e.g. Systems, Compensation, Employee Relations).
Talent Management Strategy: Partner with the Head of People Programs and other People Leads to develop and implement talent management programs that attract, retain, and develop top talent, aligning with the organization's goals and objectives.
Promotions and Career Development: Manage the promotion process, ensuring transparency and fairness, and develop career pathways to support employee growth.
Employee Engagement: Drive initiatives to assess and improve employee engagement and sentiment, utilizing surveys and feedback mechanisms to inform action plans.
Systems/Platforms: Own our foundational systems that enable our People Programs to be successful, working with vendors and internal teams to develop the architecture and capabilities that support our processes in a fast-changing environment.
Internal Mobility: Build on and improve our internal mobility framework and process, facilitating talent movement across the organization to meet business needs and support career development.
Collaboration: Partner with HR Business Partners and other stakeholders to ensure talent programs are effectively integrated and aligned with broader HR and organizational strategies.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of talent programs, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
We’re looking for someone with:
7+ years of experience in talent management, human resources, or related areas, preferably including experience in a fast-growing, early stage company context.
Proven experience in designing and implementing talent programs, including recognition, promotions, engagement, performance management, and career progression.
Strong understanding of talent management best practices and trends.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to both get into the details while also zooming out to view the entire ecosystem in context.
Proficiency with HRIS and talent management systems.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
