JOB SUMMARY

At Code.org, we're dedicated to broadening computer science opportunities in all classrooms. To scale our impact, we’re seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead zero‑to‑one product initiatives in Code.org’s Incubator, taking ideas from concept to launch to expand access to computer science and AI learning for K–12 students. Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and curriculum partners while owning outcomes—defining success, measuring impact (beyond vanity metrics), and making clear decisions in ambiguity. Operate in a remote, writing‑forward, asynchronous environment, communicating crisply to align teams and accelerate learning. This role centers on user appreciation and the realities of public school classrooms through direct interaction with teachers and students to offer mentorship on product direction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead zero-to-one product development from discovery through launch.
  • Define product strategy, goals, and success measures focused on real classroom impact.
  • Conduct user research interviews with educators and contextual inquiry with students; synthesize insights into clear product decisions.
  • Move incrementally, quickly invalidate the riskiest assumptions, and manage innovation risk
  • Write clear opportunity statements, design schematics, and asynchronous updates to drive alignment across a distributed team.
  • Work closely every day with the engineering, creative, and educational teams to transform initial concepts into functional software.
  • Balance qualitative feedback and quantitative signals when making trade‑offs; decide when to persevere, pivot, or stop.
  • Maintain a high bar for product quality and detail while navigating technical constraints.
  • Champion Code.org’s mission—baking equity, accessibility, and classroom practicality into product decisions.
  • Execute calmly and deliberately.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively across time zones in a remote‑first culture.
  • Share outcomes and findings openly to inform portfolio‑level decisions.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • 5-8 years of product management experience or equivalent track record shipping zero-to-one product; what you’ve built matters most.
  • Established track record of turning abstract concepts into tangible solutions and adapting based on user input.
  • Outstanding written communication; thrives in remote, asynchronous teamwork.
  • Robust product awareness and user understanding, particularly for educators and students; direct user research involvement.
  • Comfortable making decisions without consensus; ambitious “manager‑of‑one” approach and ownership.
  • Effective cross‑functional partner to design and engineering; technical fluency (CS background or coding experience a plus).
  • Dedicated to producing impactful results and employing data to measure success meaningfully, beyond surface-level metrics

We prefer candidates who also have:

  • Experience coordinating teams without formal authority; strong facilitation and alignment skills.
  • Deep alignment with Code.org’s mission to broaden access to CS and AI education.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid experimentation; learns quickly from failures.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization; sets direction and makes clear trade‑offs.

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Work within the United States
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Builder’s mindset. We’re looking for adaptable, result-driven team members who thrive in dynamic environments and can navigate shifting priorities with ease. In this role, you’ll embrace change, pivot strategies as needed, and drive impactful solutions that align with evolving business needs. If you excel in fast-paced settings and enjoy turning challenges into opportunities, we’d love to have you on our team!
  • We are hard on problems and kind to each other. We stay focused on the challenge of bringing computer science to students and teachers globally. We recognize that each of us brings the best of our intentions to support our mission and give grace when we make mistakes.
  • A growth mindset fuels us. We approach each challenge with curiosity. We give feedback kindly and candidly; we receive feedback openly. We learn from our mistakes and look for ways to increase the reach and impact of our work.
  • Player-coach Managers. We seek hands-on managers with player-coach mindsets who can strategize, execute, mentor, and contribute. As a manager, you balance leadership with direct involvement, guiding your team while rolling up your sleeves to drive results.
