Position Overview
The Head of Technology is a key member of the leadership team and responsible for shaping and executing Calibrant Energy’s technology strategy. This leader will be responsible for setting the company’s technology vision and strategy, overseeing the development and implementation of new technologies and services. These new technologies will drive value for customers, create reliable infrastructure for asset management and operations. In addition, provide initiative solutions for commercial performance to speed project evaluation and deal flow. Working closely with business leaders across the organization, this role will identify emerging technologies, build high-performing technical teams, and forge partnerships that strengthen Calibrant Energy’s competitive edge.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop and implement the company’s overall technology vision and strategic direction, ensuring it supports business objectives.
· Oversee product development and launch of new software or hardware solutions to support customer requirements, sales accuracy, and ongoing asset management and performance. Considers potential new technical aspects (e.g. BESS/DER controls, data science for forecasting and optimization, wholesale energy and ancillary services market participation, asset / fleet control and management, cloud-based software infrastructure, etc.)
· Leads team efforts to elicit, gather, prioritize, validate and clearly communicate competing requirements by working directly with customers, partners, technology leaders, product managers, business/market development managers, operations and asset management teams, and other internal and external stakeholders. Specifically responsible for driving these efforts amongst the Calibrant leadership teams.
· Plans, prioritizes, and communicated to leadership what and when the (internal or external) engineering teams will deliver all related features, leading the product teams on a day-to-day basis as needed with cross-functional stakeholders as part of Agile development teams. Where appropriate, develop the resourcing requirements for roadmap execution.
· Defines, simulates, validates and generates acceptance tests for related product features and capabilities, especially as they span multiple development team areas. Specifically, must drive smooth integration across the different product technology groups and products.
· Supports business development and prospective customers with subject matter expertise in support of business growth. Builds, maintains, and effectively communicates deep knowledge of evolving market rules and operations, particularly as related to energy storage assets. Monitors and interprets evolving market rules as applied to energy storage assets, with particular focus on the markets served by Calibrant. Acts as subject matter expert for webinars and customer presentations as required. Represents the company at conferences and trade shows.
· Identify and evaluate the latest technologies, assessing their potential for strategic advantage and business impact.
· Evaluate technologies and solutions for long-term asset ownership. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key hardware or software suppliers for timely, cost-effective project delivery and support. Coordinate closely with Operations and Delivery teams in sourcing for strategic partners.
· Hire, develop, and lead high-performing technical teams across software, digital, and infrastructure engineering disciplines.
· Collaborate closely with executive leadership, board or directors, business units and stakeholders to understand technology needs and drive technology-enabled business initiatives.
· Coordinates closely with Information Technology (IT) team in setting overall technology strategy and priorities.
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
· 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior or executive role within the energy, infrastructure, or technology sectors.
· Strong background product management, including requirements gathering, software design, product roadmap, budgets, and schedules.
· Strategic thinker with proven ability collaborate with cross-functional teams and translate business objectives into effective technology strategies or solutions.
· Strong knowledge of energy systems, infrastructure technologies, and digital tools that support asset management, optimization and performance.
· Familiarity with advanced forecasting and optimization technologies, especially as applied to competitive markets participation.
· Proven track record in developing and implementing technology strategies that drive growth and operational excellence.
· Demonstrated success in identifying, evaluating, and implementing emerging technologies that improve business outcomes.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
· Experience leading high-performing technical teams, with ability to inspire innovation and accountability.
· Strategic mindset with hands-on capability to deliver results in a fast-paced, evolving industry.
