Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Business Development and School Initiatives, the Business Development Coordinator is a newly established position that supports the growth and strategic objectives of WashU’s Continuing & Professional Studies (CAPS). This position plays a key role in managing and coordinating essential projects and initiatives aimed at developing new programs, building strategic partnerships, and expanding market reach. The coordinator will work closely with the Director and cross-functional teams, acting as a primary facilitator of communication and timeline management to ensure initiatives advance smoothly and align with CAPS's strategic mission.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Business Development & Partnership Support 

  • Conducts targeted research to identify trends, competitor offerings, and potential partnership opportunities for new programs and initiatives. This includes identifying key organizations, businesses, and community leaders within the St. Louis region.
  • Assists in the development of compelling proposals, presentations, and outreach materials for prospective clients and partners.
  • Supports the Director in outreach and nurturing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Researches, recommends, attends, and participates in appropriate regional and professional organizations or events to represent CAPS and extend reach and awareness.
  • Coordinates with administrative staff across CAPS and external stakeholders to schedule project update meetings/business development meetings and manage associated logistics.
  • Provides technical assistance before and during meetings; works with IT staff to ensure technology is operating properly. 
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Project Coordination & Management 

  • Assists the Director in planning, coordinating, and monitoring strategic business development projects and initiatives. 
  • Develops and manages project workflows with industry partners, including defining timelines and scope, executing action items, and tracking progress. 
  • Keeps projects on time, on target, and on budget by providing reminders and updates to all project stakeholders.

Data & Information Management 

  • Collects, compiles, and organizes data related to business development activities, market research, and program performance.
  • Organizes and maintains comprehensive data, documents, and files generated from business development activities, including information on leads, opportunities, and interactions.
  • Contributes to the creation of clear and concise reports and presentations summarizing initiative progress, key metrics, and strategic insights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Project Management, or a related field, plus at least 2 years of experience in business development, project support, or a community engagement role, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience working with post-traditional, modern learner programs or professional training and development is highly valued.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and the proven ability to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities, and project timelines effectively, ensuring smooth progression of initiatives. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of crafting clear, concise, and professional correspondence, proposals, and presentations.
  • Adept at building rapport and fostering collaborative relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including university leadership, faculty, staff, corporate partners, and community leaders.
  • A self-starter who anticipates needs, takes initiative, and independently identifies solutions to challenges, demonstrating a strong problem-solving orientation.
  • Understands fundamental business development concepts and contributes to identifying opportunities that align with the institution's strategic growth and educational mission.

Salary Range

$25.47 - $39.49 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
