The STEM Mobile Biofabrication Integrated Lab Experience (STEM-MoBILE), funded under the EDA Build Back Better (BBB) Regional Challenge Grant, will deliver biofabrication-focused learning activities to New Hampshire and the surrounding community with the goal of inspiring youth to consider careers in biofabrication. The STEM-MoBILE is one of three entities funded under the BBB awarded to Manchester, New Hampshire, and is operated in partnership with the University of New Hampshire, the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) | BiofabUSA, Southern New Hampshire University, the City of Manchester, Manchester Transportation Authority, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and the New Hampshire Southern Planning Commission.
The main role of the STEM-MoBILE Driver & Youth Educator is to deliver education activities to students and teachers as representatives of the STEM-MoBILE, and to be able to drive the STEM-MoBILE to events as needed. Hours are variable based on event booking, curriculum development needs, etc., and are expected to range from 5-20 hours per week.
Duties/Responsibilities
Driver & Youth Educators are responsible for:
Working closely with the Project Coordinator to develop and refine curriculum and lesson plans related to biofabrication
Working with other youth educators to effectively share information with students and teachers of all grades from K-12
Developing an understanding of biofabrication and other curriculum topics such that they can effectively deliver content and answer questions from the audience of our programming
Attending meetings and events as invited by the Project Manager
Providing and/or collaborating on brief written reports for the Project Manager after events when applicable
Representing the STEM-MoBILE, the New Hampshire Biofabrication Cluster, and UNH appropriately with all members of collaborators and with the public
Completing and maintaining all training required by the Project Manager and the university for driving university vehicles
Driving the vehicle to and from events located anywhere in New Hampshire, including packing up the vehicle before events and unloading the vehicle after events
Being the “lead” on events as indicated by the Project Manager
Requirements
Required qualifications for this position include:
Comfortable working with kids of all ages (K-12) and speaking to members of the public
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently and with a small team
Willingness to learn about new science topics as they become relevant to programming
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Enthusiasm and creativity
Ability or willingness to learn to operate a large vehicle safely and responsibly in accordance with training provided by the university and the Project Manager
Must submit to and pass a motor vehicle background check
Must submit to and pass a background check for working with youth
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience working with kids in a formal or informal educational setting
Science and/or engineering background
Experience driving large vehicles (sub-CDL requirements)
