Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Directs and supervises performance of a group of employees engaged in similar functions and directs a major organization-wide work process.  Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures.  Translates the overall objectives set by higher management into individual and collective objectives for subordinates and develops plans for accomplishing them.  Provides training and communicates information from higher management to employees.  Assists the Director of Emergency and Outpatient Services and the Chief Nursing Officer in accomplishing his/her twenty-four hour responsibility for operation of area(s) of responsibility.  Supports the System and Nursing Strategic Plans.  Supports Relationship-Based Care and Shared Leadership.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland. BSN required, Masters preferred. A Registered Nurse required with a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible management experience and 3-5 years clinical RN experience or professional experience in a healthcare environment. Two years of decentralized management experience preferred. Certification in nursing specialty or nursing administration upon eligibility.
  • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.  He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures
