Senior Linux Systems Engineer
Skills
- Deep Linux kernel and filesystem performance knowledge (NFS, ext4/XFS tuning)
- Strong TCP/IP networking background including routing, VLANs, and firewall rules
- Experience with server hardware, component-level builds, diagnostics, and vendor interaction
- Proficiency in shell scripting (bash) and working knowledge of Python
- Experience with configuration management/orchestration (Ansible, Salt) and automation practices
- Familiarity with modern CPU and GPU technologies and their system integration
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance Linux servers and storage supporting compute and data-intensive pipelines
- Tune Linux kernel, filesystems, and NFS to maximize I/O, memory, and network performance
- Automate provisioning and configuration using Ansible, Salt, or similar orchestration tools
- Monitor system health, diagnose kernel/driver/hardware issues, and perform root-cause analysis with engineering teams
- Maintain system reliability through patching, backups, monitoring, and performance tuning
- Create and maintain runbooks, system documentation, and configuration baselines
- Collaborate closely with software, hardware, and scientific teams to ensure platform scalability and reliability
- Work with vendors on hardware issues and lifecycle management

- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (required)
