Career Advancement serves a student population of approximately 7,000 arts and sciences undergraduate students, in addition to alumni who have graduated within the last five years. Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students’ success after graduation. Career Advancement offers innovative and comprehensive career development services with a focus on pre-professional preparation, experiential education, and opportunities. Job Summary

The Careers in Policy, Government and Nonprofits team supports students interested in careers in government, non-profits, sustainability, human rights, global health, national security, think tanks, foundations, and more. The Senior Associate Director, Policy, Government and Nonprofits will have oversight over all employer relations strategy and development. They will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive employer engagement strategy to strengthen partnerships and increase job and internship opportunities for students. They will oversee the relationship management with key employer stakeholders, analyze industry trends, and collaborate with career advisors to align employer outreach with student career interests and institutional priorities. They will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of their employer engagement plan, using data-driven insights to improve outreach efforts based on the goal of placing every student in a summer internship or full-time job.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and engaged individual with an interest in helping students develop their career pathways in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and stewards a portfolio of relationships with employers in government, human rights, policy and social impact, including non-profits, foundations, and NGOs, to promote student recruitment for internships and full-time opportunities.
  • Coordinates within the team and across the office on employer development strategy.
  • Manages and administers employer treks. This includes connecting with in-market offices, employers, and alumni to develop and execute trek agendas.
  • Develops career-oriented guides for industry-specific knowledge including recruiting guides, web content, presentations, and other content.
  • Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches in the social sciences, social service, and foundations and philanthropy.
  • Oversees the Metcalf budget for all Social Sciences and Policy internship opportunities.
  • Conducts job search and career management related large lectures, hands-on workshops, special events, training programs, and one-on-one career coaching sessions. Acts as a resource for and directs students to other career resources as needed.
  • Advises and counsels students interested in careers in policy, social impact, and the social sciences, utilizing first-hand career knowledge and skills and collaborating with other Career Advancement teams.
  • Leads day-to-day operations for the National Security Public Safety Track.
  • Maintains efficient methods of tracking student data, quantifying student engagement, and reporting on student outcomes.
  • Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches. Assesses student feedback and evaluations and collaborates with other career services staff members, student organizations, or other staff to determine program offerings and innovations.
  • Researches organizations that are hiring and partners with a wide variety of employers to ensure recruitment strategies meet their needs. Maintains contact with a portfolio of employers to serve as their dedicated Career Advancement liaison.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Working Conditions

  • Work evening hours and weekends on an occasional basis, generally 3-5 times per quarter.
  • Travel, generally 2-3 times per year.
