- Familiarity with the Texas Public Information Act and public records processing
- Ability to advise non-legal clients and collaborate with HR and department leaders
- Eligibility to pass CJIS fingerprint-based background check
Responsibilities
- Advise City departments on employment, disciplinary matters, interpretation of state civil service statutes, City personnel rules, and labor agreements.
- Respond to and defend against state and federal charges of employment discrimination and retaliation; represent the City in employment-related litigation and administrative proceedings.
- Process public information requests in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act.
- Review and recommend updates to personnel policies and advise labor negotiators.
- Prepare and respond to subpoenas, conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda and pleadings, and provide legal advice to City boards, commissions, and staff.
- Participate in mentorship and in-house training and support a collaborative office culture.
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership/licensure from the Supreme Court of Texas to practice law
- Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible legal experience, including trial and/or transactional experience
