At Terabase Energy, we believe that digitalization and automation will drive the next wave of innovation and cost reduction in large scale solar. To fully unlock the potential of this opportunity, Terabase is developing an interconnected software and construction automation platform. We work alongside project developers, owners, and engineering & construction firms to support the design, optimization, and construction of huge solar projects around the world. Our team is a blend of solar-industry veterans and novices, thought-leaders, dreamers, software, electrical and mechanical engineers, coders, product managers, project managers, sales and marketing professionals. Terabase Energy is a well-funded scale-up headquartered in Berkeley, California, with several other offices in the US and around the world.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Product Director, reporting to the SVP of Product, to lead the development and growth of Terafab, our flagship robotic platform for solar power plant installation. This role requires a strategic thinker who is passionate about renewable energy, robotics, and product innovation. As the Product Director, you will own the product roadmap, collaborate with cross-functional teams, support the scale-up of Terafab and ensure it exceeds market expectations.

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days in our Davis/Woodland, CA office or Berkeley, CA office. Travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy and Roadmap:

  • Develop and maintain a clear product vision and strategy for Terafab.
  • Define and prioritize the product roadmap based on market research, customer feedback, and business goals.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging trends in renewable energy and robotics to guide product innovation.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with OEMs and other technology partners to integrate solutions and drive innovation.
  • Work closely with engineering, design, sales, and marketing teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Gather and synthesize input from customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to inform product decisions.
  • Act as the primary advocate for Terafab within the organization and with external stakeholders

Product Development:

  • Oversee the development lifecycle of Terafab, from concept to deployment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define technical requirements and ensure feasibility.
  • Conduct regular reviews to monitor progress and address any challenges.

Market and Customer Insights:

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to understand customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Develop detailed customer personas and use cases to guide product design and development.
  • Gather feedback through user testing, surveys, and direct engagement to improve the product.

Performance Metrics and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain Terafab cost and value models, and industry baseline model.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of Terafab.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on product performance, challenges, and opportunities.

Go-to-Market Strategy:

  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop positioning, messaging, and launch plans for Terafab.
  • Support sales efforts by providing product expertise and creating customer-facing materials.

This is a rare opportunity to help scale a disruptive hardware + software platform supporting the global energy transition. If you're passionate about building great tech solutions with an impact, we’d love to connect with you.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, robotics, industrial engineering, or related field)
  • 7+ years total professional experience in product management, engineering, or project management, with at least 4 years in product management for hardware+software solutions.
  • 3+ years in robotics, automation, or autonomous machinery, ideally in construction, agriculture, or manufacturing.
  • Direct exposure to large-scale solar power plant construction (utility-scale EPC, developer, or technology supplier), including knowledge of racking, module installation, site preparation, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance for heavy machinery and autonomous systems (OSHA, ISO, CE Marking).
  • Proven track record of taking industrial or field-deployed products from concept to market, including pilot deployments, iterative design cycles, and scaling to production.
  • Experience working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, software, AI/computer vision).
  • Ability to translate field operations needs into clear technical requirements and prioritize for maximum ROI.
  • Understanding of robotics technologies: perception (cameras, LiDAR, GNSS), autonomy stacks, actuation, teleoperation, safety systems.
  • Strong grasp of B2B industrial product lifecycles – from concept validation through launch and after-sales support.
  • Skilled in data-driven product decisions, including business case development, cost-benefit analysis, and performance KPIs.
  • Comfortable working in the field with customers, operators, and construction crews, as well as in the office with engineering and executives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, balancing the needs of customers, engineering, operations, and business development.
  • Excellent communicator who can bridge technical details and business strategy.
  • Resilient and adaptable in fast-paced, evolving environments.
