WebRTC SFU Engineer (US Mountain Timezone)

Stream powers chat & video for many large apps like Strava, Nextdoor, Patreon, IBM, Adobe and Midjourney. For video we’ve built our own Go/Pion based SFU and a network of edge servers around the world.

We are looking for a WebRTC SFU Engineer to join our team and work on the SFU. The goal is to raise the bar on the developer experience and make it much easier to add real time audio/video to any application. We are also expanding into AI integrations for realtime audio & video. US-based (preference for Boulder or nearby locations), Toronto (Canada) or similar timezones.

Stream has a 10 week internal Go onboarding program, prior experience with Golang is not required.

Hybrid policy: applicants based in the Netherlands or relocating here, are expected to work in the office in Amsterdam 3 times per week. Exemptions may apply to specific cases.

What you will do

• Work on the core API of our video product, include the SFU and our media pipeline used for WHIP/WHEP/RTMP and other protocols

• Technologies you will work with: Golang, WebRTC, RTMP, SRT, HLS, protobuf, SVC codecs, Opus, bandwidth negotiation

• Improve performance and build new features of our SFU server

• Work on our edge infrastructure and improve its stability and feature-set

• Build new features to support existing and upcoming audio/video technologies (eg. AI, WHIP, SRT, WHEP, …)

About You

This role requires at least 2 years of backend/low level WebRTC experience. Bonus points for:

• Experience with Go

• Scalability/database/Redis experience

• Experience with SDK development/ React/Swift/Compose etc.

• Experience with AWS or other cloud provider

• Python (our AI runs on Python) and Rust experience

• Message queues experience

• Full text search experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

Salary (for Colorado only): Our salary ranges are based on national averages. We have wide ranges so we can be flexible and determine compensation based on a number of factors including the candidate's skills, level of experience, and location. For Colorado-based candidates, the salary range for this position is $146,500 -$205,300. Compensation at all other locations will be based on the factors as stated above.
