About the role:

The Financial Controller plays a critical role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day financial operations of Sapio Sciences. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements, while supporting the CFO and broader executive team with key financial insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical accounting background (preferably with audit experience), deep understanding of US GAAP and SaaS financial metrics, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

This is a highly visible role requiring frequent collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

• Financial Reporting:
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and ARR reporting.
• Ensure financial statements are prepared in compliance with US GAAP and UK GAAP where applicable.
• Support the CFO in Board reporting and investor financial deliverables.
• Budget and Forecasting:
• Lead the annual budget process in collaboration with department heads and senior management.
• Prepare financial forecasts and provide variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Financial Analysis:
• Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including trend analysis, profitability analysis, variance analysis, and SaaS-specific KPIs.
• Provide actionable insights to improve financial performance.
• Internal Controls:
• Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal controls framework across all finance-related activities.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audit standards, and lender reporting obligations.
• Manage and coordinate the annual audit process, partnering with external auditors and ensuring timely, minimal-adjustment audits.
• Cash Management:
• Oversee cash flow management and forecasting, ensuring adequate liquidity to meet business obligations.
• Assist with treasury functions and manage day to day banking relationships.
• Team Management:
• Supervise, develop, and mentor the accounting team to ensure high standards of performance and professional growth.
• Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture within the finance function.
• Cross-Functional and Stakeholder Collaboration:
• Work closely with internal stakeholders, including sales, HR, legal, and operations, to support company initiatives.
• Communicate financial results and forecasts effectively to senior management, investors, and external partners

• Assist with payroll oversight, benefits administration, and new employee onboarding from a finance perspective.
• Support system implementations (e.g., Netsuite enhancements, revenue recognition tools).
• Lead or support special projects as needed to drive continuous improvement across finance and operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA qualification required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally starting in public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm preferred) and transitioning to industry.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, particularly US GAAP (including ASC 606, ASC 842, and 409A valuation familiarity).
• Experience with SaaS business models and metrics.
• Solid experience with NetSuite (required), Mosaic (preferable) and familiarity with QuickBooks (preferred for legacy purposes).
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
• Experience in a high-growth, international environment preferred.

• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Flexible, proactive mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial colleagues.
• Team-oriented leadership style with experience managing and developing finance teams.
• High level of integrity and commitment to excellence

• Must be based on the East Coast USA.
• Hybrid role: working from home with frequent travel required to Sapio offices (York, PA and Miami, FL) and other locations as needed.
