Skills
- Turbine design for turbopumps and turbomachinery
- Aerodynamic analysis (compressible flows, performance prediction)
- Structural analysis including fatigue methods (LCF and HCF)
- Knowledge of turbopump assembly procedures and rotor dynamics (balancing, fits, clearances)
- Ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts and communicate clearly
- Experience working in fast-paced aerospace or flight development environments
Responsibilities
- Lead aerodynamic and structural design and analysis of turbines for rocket turbopumps
- Develop and apply LCF and HCF methodologies to assess component durability
- Collaborate with propulsion, manufacturing, test, and integration teams to incorporate design improvements
- Drive turbopump assembly and rotor balancing best practices, including interference fits, clearance checks, and structural proofing
- Plan and support turbomachinery test campaigns and troubleshoot issues discovered in testing
- Define requirements and handoffs between design, manufacturing, and test teams to enable rapid iteration
- Communicate technical status, risks, and tradeoffs to multidisciplinary stakeholders
Education
- Degree in engineering or related technical field (required)
- Advanced degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or related field (preferred)
