Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Engineering Intern to be based in Conshohocken, PA.

This position is expected to begin in June 2026.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform various technical engineering tasks for the planning, design, and construction phases of water/wastewater treatment design projects.
  • Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
  • Technical tasks may include:
  • Water/wastewater treatment evaluation and design
  • Pump station evaluation and design
  • Water distribution system hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design
  • Sewer collection system evaluation and design
  • Stormwater modeling, analysis, and design

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on water resources, water or wastewater treatment, conveyance/pipelines, or related field and must have completed at least two of years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong logic skills and writing skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Documents time and effort accurately.
