Join our growing Ops Engineering team and help build internal tooling and infrastructure that empowers operators at Ramp. As an internal-facing team, you'll work directly with our operations teams to design, implement, and scale tools and systems that enable them to serve our customers more efficiently and effectively. Much of our work involves managing the Retool platform, building custom tooling on top of platforms like Zendesk, developing internal API to support internal operations, and creating operator-facing applications that help our ops teams move faster and deliver better customer experiences.Op

The Ops Engineering team is highly cross-functional, working closely with operations, customer support, and other internal stakeholders to solve a wide range of infrastructure and tooling challenges. Our ideal candidate has a strong sense of ownership and enjoys owning projects from inception to scaling them in production. You'll be working with a nimble team of committed and talented engineers and having a large, long-term impact on technical design and engineering culture. We are intentionally pushing to use AI to automate workflows end-to-end, reducing manual toil and standardizing patterns across Retool, Zendesk, and our internal APIs.
Our ideal candidate possesses a deep knowledge of AWS, or an equivalent cloud provider and will assist in building the next generation of our internal tooling infrastructure. They have been accountable for deploying production systems and have experience handling scale, reliability, observability, and automation. They exhibit a strong sense of ownership, promptly addressing high-urgency issues that impact internal users, and they also mentor and foster the growth of every other team member.
What You'll Do
Own and evolve Ramp's internal tooling platform infrastructure, serving as a technical leader for platform strategy and architecture
Manage the Retool platform ecosystem, establishing governance standards, best practices, and self-service capabilities for operations teams
Design and maintain platform integrations with third-party systems like Zendesk, creating reusable components and standardized patterns
Build and scale platform infrastructure using cloud-native technologies including AWS services, PostgreSQL, Redis, and containerization platforms
Partner with operations stakeholders to define platform requirements, drive adoption, and enable teams to leverage platform capabilities effectively
Establish platform health monitoring, observability standards, and performance metrics to ensure reliability and scalability
Drive platform security, access controls, and compliance standards across internal tooling infrastructure
Participate in an On Call rotation to resolve critical platform issues impacting internal users
What You Need
5+ years of experience building and operating production platform infrastructure, preferably internal tooling platforms or developer platforms
Deep production experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services (or equivalent cloud provider)
Proven track record managing and scaling platforms like Retool, or similar low-code/internal tooling platforms
Strong experience with platform integrations and building on top of third-party systems (e.g., Zendesk, Salesforce)
Expert knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform for managing platform infrastructure
Experience establishing platform governance, standards, and self-service capabilities for internal teams
Proficiency in backend programming languages (Python, Node.js, etc.) for building platform services and APIs
Strong ability to partner with operations stakeholders to define platform requirements and drive adoption
Experience with platform observability, monitoring, and reliability engineering practices
Strong sense of ownership over platform infrastructure and ability to drive platform strategy from conception to scale
