McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational solutions, is looking for an Instructional Designer for ELA 6-12You will be a valuable member of a collaborative group of Instructional Designers, closely partnering with teams focused on content, product management, UX, and creative media. As part of this team, you will create robust digital tools, curriculum and learning solutions in a variety of formats that are used by millions of educators and students every day. The Instructional Designer, 6-12 ELA is a digital savvy content and curriculum expert, responsible and accountable for assembling high-quality content based on specific product requirements for the Literacy programs. 

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) rolewith an end date of 07/31/2026.

What you will be doing:

  • Contributes to specific product workstreams under the direction of management and senior team members, providing strong support across concept meetings, manuscript reviews, storyboarding, build rounds for digital assets, the product build process, and user testing.
  • Utilizes a UBD process to design and storyboard custom digital curriculum tools that enhance SME-provided content, applying design principles, backward design, and design thinking concepts in novel situations.
  • Contributes to the creation of POCs and prototypes, offering heavy contributions with digital tools and supporting Agile workflows through iterative practices and collaborative execution to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides informal product and workflow training to associate instructional designers, supports vendors and freelancers by offering clear guidelines and answering questions, and supports digital launches by helping create templates, trackers, and digital content development guidelines.
  • Creates novel solutions with measurable value for internal and external customers by experimenting with new approaches that solve work problems and produce unique, differentiated solutions.
  • Serves as an expert in accessibility with strong contributions throughout the product development process, ensuring accessible digital content and supporting related best practices.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure product requirements, schedules, and goals are met on time; leads approved workflows at all stages; and supports tasks such as metadata tagging, concept mapping, and digital editing.
  • Works with cross-functional partners to identify, test, troubleshoot, define, and follow up on technical bugs and enhancements within authoring tools and platforms, helping define requirements when needed, while staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in instructional design.

What you need to be considered: 

  • 2 - 4 years’ experience working in digital content development that includes teaching and learning materials. 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field required.
  • Experience working on multiple projects within tight deliverables and budgets. 
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and practices, including collaboration in iterative workflows.
  • Strong ability to communicate and collaborate. 
  • Experience with authoring tools, learning management systems, and content management systems. 
  • Ability to visualize and create animated and interactive content. 
  • A successful candidate may have previous 6-12 teaching experience.

The pay range for this position is between $54,550 - $65,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Additionally, a full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offered.
