Operations Manager

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Flexdrive, a subsidiary of Lyft that offers vehicle access to Lyft drivers through a flexible car rental subscription program, is seeking a passionate, organized, experienced operator and people leader to lead the Flexdrive rental operations teams in the Los Angeles region.

This exceptional servant leader will be experienced in managing large teams, and passionate about process excellence, continuous improvement, and best in class operations. In addition to leading a regional team, you will also be responsible for driving cross-functional initiatives, managing the costs of our programs, streamlining and optimizing our operations, and unlocking new opportunities and partnerships... the buck stops with you within your region.

Reporting to the Director of Field Operations  you will manage a team of leaders that own Lyft’s fleet and rental experience across 4-6 locations and will be expected to regularly travel within your region. You’ll also collaborate with other operations team members who support Flexdrive operations across the country, and serve as a crucial conduit between Lyft headquarters and the local teams that serve renters and manage vehicles on the ground, ensuring effective two-way communication and alignment on top priorities. You will also be responsible for influencing and achieving the most optimal allocation of fleet across locations regionally to drive revenue. Your ability to connect the dots between on the ground field operations and HQ strategic initiatives will ensure flawless execution of national strategic projects in your local market.

If you have experience managing large teams, developing employees, working in dynamic environments, removing obstacles, and solving tough problems, we’d like to talk with you.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Los Angeles region, overseeing each market’s fleet, rental operations and sites
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the region’s fleet and markets to sustainably maximize fleet availability, performance, and utilization to enable growth
  • Lead, develop, and engage a distributed organization of 20+ team members across multiple cities and sites, including direct management of a team of Operations Leads
  • Identify key market-level questions, problems, and continuous improvement opportunities to drive profitability and operational efficiencies
  • Drive strategic, fleet-wide initiatives to improve customer satisfaction, fleet health and fleet management costs; identify opportunities and make them happen
  • Proactively gather and analyze data through quantitative and qualitative mechanisms to help improve regional and HQ decisions on critical strategic issues; constantly drive improvement on business and team performance metrics
  • Manage the relationship between the XD headquarters team and local teams to effectively advocate for local needs and regional considerations
  • Prioritize team resources based on financial impact, operational capacity, and customer needs
  • Constantly drive improvement on business and team performance metrics
  • Grow revenue and improve profitability by optimizing in-market operations, meeting financial targets and internalizing and owning regional impact on program-wide P&Ls
  • Establish yourself as a valuable cross-functional thought partner to help drive business growth and opportunities across the company; synthesize market and customer feedback to build business cases that support recommendations and prioritize these opportunities for higher efficiency
  • Represent Lyft's brand, mission, and culture both inside and outside of the organization.

Experience:

  • 5+ years professional experience leading large teams in process-driven, operational environments.
  • You love people: motivation, engagement, and development come naturally. You identify what makes your team members tick and gain energy from coaching them to achieve a common goal. You have demonstrated experience hiring, mentoring and retaining a high-performing team.
  • Operational and data-driven mindset: you’re a master at cultivating an operationally effective team and are obsessed with eliminating waste and creating efficiencies.
  • Strong problem solver: you surface problems, identify root causes, fix them and keep them from coming back. You think outside of the box and are resourceful and fiscally responsible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: you’re able to influence and collaborate up, down, and across the organization, as well as with external stakeholders. You’re comfortable leading within matrixed organizations, pulling in thought leaders from both internal and external resources to foster knowledge and expertise for their teams.
  • Excellent time management: you effectively prioritize multiple competing functions and tasks and are able to manage multiple large cross-functional projects at once, while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Always a team player: you're positive, optimistic, and willing to help out wherever needed. You’re highly collaborative with the proven ability to manage large scale projects and influence cross-functionally.
  • Strong critical thinker: you’re able to see the “big picture” and identify/forecast developing issues.
  • Communication skills: you have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You are comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels of the organization and speaking the language of different business functions.
  • Experience managing hourly/non-exempt workers in operations or service teams preferred.
  • Experience managing hard assets (fleet, retail, warehouse, etc.) or relevant complex asset/inventory business is a plus.
  • Personal passion for community motivated to inspire others by a deep connection to Lyft’s mission and core values
