Recruitment & Onboarding Manager

About Lead For America

Lead For America (LFA) is dedicated to building a diverse leadership force to strengthen communities and bridge divides in the U.S. by fostering relationships across political and ideological lines. The American Connection Corps (ACC), launched by LFA, is the nation's largest AmeriCorps initiative focused on closing the digital divide in rural and economically disadvantaged areas. Supported by a broad coalition of partners, including AmeriCorps and major corporations, ACC connects communities to affordable high-speed internet, advancing economic opportunity, health, and social capital in underserved regions. By empowering local institutions and providing critical support, ACC members help rural America thrive in the digital age.

Department Context:

The National Recruitment & Selection team drives Lead For America’s host partnership–centered recruitment strategy, ensuring strong, mission-aligned relationships with nonprofits, government agencies, Tribal Nations, libraries, and other community organizations. This department is responsible for developing and managing host site pipelines, guiding organizations through the full lifecycle from initial outreach to onboarding and member placement. The team supports host-led recruitment of community-rooted members, providing coaching, training, and resources to ensure successful placement outcomes. By prioritizing partnership quality, host readiness, and alignment with LFA’s mission, the team ensures that every program placement strengthens both the community and the member experience. Key responsibilities include host identification and engagement, relationship management, onboarding guidance, process facilitation, CRM and data tracking, and cross-team collaboration to advance organizational goals and programmatic impact.

Role Expectations:

The Recruitment & Onboarding Manager – Host Partnerships drives LFA’s host-centered recruitment model, building strong, community-rooted partnerships with nonprofits, government agencies, libraries, Tribal Nations, and other local organizations. This role ensures host sites are fully prepared, confident, and capable of recruiting their own local members, while guiding them through the host application, onboarding, orientation, and placement process. This position focuses on relationship management, process coaching, and strategic partnership development, using data and CRM tools to track progress, ensure accountability, and measure success by host readiness and quality placements.

What You’ll Do:
Host Partnership Recruitment & Relationship Management (40% ):

  • Conduct high-volume outreach to prospective host sites, including emails, calls, LinkedIn, and industry networking.
  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with a diverse set of community organizations capable of hosting members.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for host sites, providing guidance, coaching, and support throughout the recruitment lifecycle.
  • Partner with internal teams to align host recruitment with funding, geographic priorities, and program goals.
  • Attend and represent LFA at conferences, community events, and sector-specific gatherings to expand recruitment opportunities.

Host Lifecycle Management & Onboarding (35%):

  • Guide hosts through the full lifecycle: application, interview, onboarding, orientation, active member recruitment, submission of member candidates.
  • Coach hosts on local recruitment best practices that reflect ACC’s values, mission, and community-centered approach.
  • Ensure hosts meet key deadlines, including contract completion and member submission timelines.
  • Provide training, materials, and ongoing support to help hosts navigate the placement process successfully.
  • Act as a thought partner, advising hosts on position design, recruitment messaging, and local outreach strategies.
  • Connect candidates received in ACC National Application with host organizations

Process Leadership & Data Management  (15%):

  • Track host progress through CRM and project management tools (e.g., Workable, Campground, Asana), ensuring accurate, real-time reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze host readiness, timelines, and placement quality to inform recruitment strategy.
  • Refine processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and host satisfaction.

Organizational Requirements (10%):

In addition to the responsibilities unique to the Role described above, all Team members devote a portion of their time to supporting strategic and operational efforts across our teams that advance the organization:

  • Compliance for org-wide administration - expense reporting, benefits, KPI tracking
  • Taking part in additional organizational initiatives, priorities, and responsibilities, as needed.

5–7 years of experience in recruitment, partnership management, community engagement, or related program operations — ideally within national service programs, workforce development, nonprofits, or government sectors. You bring direct experience managing high-volume outreach, guiding stakeholders through defined processes, and ensuring successful outcomes across diverse community organizations.

Demonstrated relationship-management excellence — you’ve built and maintained strong, trust-based partnerships with external stakeholders such as nonprofits, government agencies, Tribal Nations, libraries, or community-based organizations. You excel at coaching, advising, and supporting partners through multistep processes with clarity, empathy, and accountability.

Expertise in recruitment pipelines and/or program onboarding — you’re skilled at guiding partners or participants through structured recruitment or onboarding workflows, anticipating challenges, and ensuring readiness at each stage. You bring a track record of helping stakeholders meet deadlines, follow processes, and achieve high-quality placements or program matches.

Strong project management and organizational skills — you can manage many partners, timelines, and processes at once, keeping complex workflows moving smoothly from outreach to placement. You bring discipline, attention to detail, and comfort navigating fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

Data- and systems-oriented mindset — you use data and CRM/project management tools (i.e. ATS, Salesforce, Asana) to track progress, identify gaps, and drive decision-making. You’re comfortable analyzing trends, monitoring pipeline health, and improving processes based on insights.

Proactive problem solver and process improver — you identify friction points in the recruitment and onboarding lifecycle, gather feedback, and iterate to create clearer, more consistent, and more equitable systems. You balance structure with flexibility and know how to support partners through challenges.

Clear, confident, and values-driven communicator — you excel at communicating expectations, timelines, and next steps to external partners with clarity and professionalism. You can facilitate trainings, lead calls, and translate complex information into digestible guidance for diverse audiences.

Cross-functional collaborator — you work well with internal teams (Program Operations, Marketing & Communications, Finance, Data/Systems) to align strategies, share insights, and support high-quality placements.

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-rooted recruitment — you understand the importance of recruiting local, representative members and supporting community organizations in leading the process. You design and facilitate processes with cultural humility, accessibility, and equity at the forefront.

Mission alignment — you care deeply about national service, digital equity, and community leadership. You are motivated by supporting rural and historically underserved communities and by helping local institutions build the capacity they need to thrive.
