BASIC FUNCTION
The purpose of this position is to provide care for the Howard University student-athlete in the following areas: prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, providing education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Establishes commitments to compliance of rules and keeps all student athletes informed about National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) conference and University eligibility requirements, new legislation, academic standards, and University code of conduct.
Maintains an athletic calendar of events for team practice, games, and other schedule activities.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.
Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.
Completes required CEU’s for BOCATC
Remain in good standing with the BOCATC
Uphold Howard University Sports Medicine Policy & Procedures for athletes.
Works more than the traditional 40 hours per week, which may include many weekends (including Sundays), nights and holidays.
Must possess a valid driver’s license for transportation of team in vans and the ability to travel for team practices and competition.
Other duties as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of University, NCAA, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rules and regulations.
Have a foundation of Sports Medicine techniques to ensure the Health and Well Being of our student-athletes.
Ability to supervise and evaluate student athletes.
Skill in oral and written English to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
Skill in organization as well as technical and disciplinary skills to help assist the coordinator.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
Reports to the Director of Sports Medicine.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Maintains appropriate communication with the Director of Sports Medicine, student-athletes, coaches, and physicians.
Maintains appropriate communication and attends meetings within the Department of Athletics.
Maintains an athletic calendar of events for team practice, games, and other schedule activities.
Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in exercise physiology/health education, sports medicine or a related field preferred.
NATABOC certification.
Current CPR/AED certification.
Ability to lift to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
DC License Eligibility and 3 years minimum certified athletic training experience
Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
SALARY RANGE DISCLOSURE: $65,000 - $75,000
