Director of Business Development

The Experience Senior Living Team is comprised of dynamic professionals that are fueled by their passion to empower people as they grow older to live life to the fullest. They are creators, architects, nurses, researchers, programmers, marketers, facilitators, developers, investors, and caregivers, all focused on making a positive impact on the lives of residents, their families and team members.

The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving both internal and external sales growth within Experience Senior Living’s Colorado market. This role will begin with a focused assignment—supporting the sales and occupancy growth of a designated community (approximately 60% internal sales and 40% external business development). Once that community is stabilized, the position will expand to encompass external business development and referral relationship management across all Colorado communities.

Responsibilities

Internal Sales & Community Stabilization (Initial Phase)

  • Partner with the Executive Director and Director of Sales to meet and exceed occupancy goals for the assigned community.
  • Lead or support sales presentations, tours, and prospect follow-up to drive move-ins.
  • Maintain accurate data and follow-up activity within the CRM system (Sherpa or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with community leadership to ensure an exceptional prospect experience, model staging, and adherence to ESL brand standards.
  • Conduct daily sales strategy sessions and participate in creative outreach planning.
  • Provide on-site coaching and support to sales teams during periods of turnover, leave, or transition.
  • Support event planning and community visibility to increase qualified leads.

External Business Development (Long-Term Focus)

  • Develop and manage relationships with professional referral sources including healthcare providers, discharge planners, social workers, and community partners.
  • Identify and cultivate referral pipelines that generate qualified leads for all Colorado communities.
  • Create and execute business development plans with measurable referral and conversion goals.
  • Track and report referral activity, conversion ratios, and market intelligence to the SVP of Sales & Marketing.
  • Maintain an active presence in the local market through outreach, presentations, and strategic partnerships.
  • Represent ESL at regional networking events, health fairs, and industry associations.
  • Collaborate with divisional and senior leadership to assess market trends, competitive positioning, and partnership opportunities.
  • Support the launch of new communities and assist with sales team training during pre-opening and early occupancy phases.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a sales culture champion—modeling ESL’s relationship-centered selling approach.
  • Partner closely with the SVP of Sales and Marketing, the Divisional Director of Sales & Marketing, Sales Specialists, and community leaders to ensure alignment on messaging, process, and goals.
  • Provide recommendations for pricing, marketing, and promotional strategies based on local insights.
  • Uphold ESL’s brand standards, values, and customer experience philosophy in all interactions.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Self-Starter & Goal-Driven: Demonstrates initiative and ownership in building relationships, generating outreach opportunities, and delivering measurable results. Organizes work efficiently and follows through with consistency and accountability.
  • Collaborative & Positive: Brings an optimistic, solutions-focused attitude to every interaction. Builds trust and rapport across teams—working seamlessly with community leaders, peers, and support partners across the organization.
  • Clear & Compassionate Communicator: Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with prospective residents, families, professional partners, and team members. Adapts messaging with warmth, professionalism, and authenticity.
  • Strong Interpersonal Presence: Maintains a confident and professional demeanor while fostering meaningful, trust-based relationships both inside and outside the organization.
  • Excellent Presenter: Delivers engaging presentations that connect, inform, and inspire—whether to individual families, referral partners, or large audiences.
  • Resident-Centered Mindset: Keeps the resident experience at the heart of all decisions and interactions, embodying ESL’s values of compassion, integrity, innovation, and excellence.
  • Adaptable & Resilient: Thrives in a dynamic environment, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining composure and focus.
  • Strategic Relationship Builder: Cultivates strong partnerships in the community and identifies opportunities to expand ESL’s presence and impact across the Colorado market.
  • Tech-Savvy & Organized: Proficient with CRM systems (Aline/Sherpa preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual communication tools; uses data and technology to enhance sales performance and efficiency.
  • Market Knowledge: Familiarity with the Colorado healthcare and senior living landscape, including referral networks, competitive trends, and community partnerships preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in senior living, healthcare marketing, or business development.
  • Proven success in referral development, census growth, and relationship selling.
  • Experience in multi-site outreach or territory management preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Colorado (anticipated 75% travel once the role becomes statewide, may vary as needs arise).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required.

We offer a full benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, STD/LTD, life and voluntary life, 401k with employer matching, paid holidays, and up to 20 days PTO in the first three years.
