Manager of HR Data and Analytics - Office of Human Resources

The Office of Human Resources is seeking a Manager of HR Data and Analytics to join our team and help shape the future work environment through the application of data-driven insights.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Compensation and Benefits, this role combines data analysis, narrative crafting, and strategic implementation to identify patterns, address important issues, and equip leadership with insights to facilitate impactful improvements for attracting and retaining our skilled employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Bring stories to life through data by crafting and delivering structured, broad approaches that translate complex analyses into clear business insights and recommended actions.
  • Combine insights from different sources to reveal trends, patterns, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Build and operationalize reporting and analytics tools that empower leaders and managers to make data-informed decisions about the workforce.
  • Develop workforce planning solutions such as dashboards and reports that optimize decision-making and prioritization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR and academic/administrative leaders, helping them understand and act on workforce data.
  • Measure and communicate impact by analyzing the efficiency and effectiveness of HR programs and reporting meaningful results to leadership.
  • Visualize insights across the university that highlight performance trends and strategic opportunities through the use of predictive analytics and data visualization
  • Safeguard data integrity by collaborating with university leadership and technology teams to establish standards in data entry, management, and quality.
  • Take on other strategic projects that support HR’s mission and transformation.

We are seeking individuals who demonstrate:

  • Knowledge in delivering sophisticated analytics, ranging from detailed statistical analysis to predictive modeling, with an ability to produce actionable insights and impactful data visualizations.
  • A creative and curious approach with the ability to develop new analyses and uncover fresh insights from HR data.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and documentation skills to translate data into clear, compelling stories for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in turning raw data into practical tools such as action plans, scorecards, dashboards, and executive presentations.
  • Capability to operate self-sufficiently while promoting effective teamwork across various organizational divisions.
  • A team-oriented approach, adaptability, and flexibility in problem-solving.
  • A sincere enthusiasm for inspiring change and facilitating transformation through data and analytics.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience required; experience in data science, advanced analytics, and data is highly desired.
  • Previous experience in higher education and/or a complex, matrixed organization with varied business units preferred.
  • Previous experience with Workday is a plus.

A combination of education and/or proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours), exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Work Posture: This opportunity is operating on a hybrid work schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence of 3 days a week, 2 days remote (Pittsburgh, PA-based)
  • Sponsorship: Aspirants interested in this role should hold current legal authorization to work for CMU in the United States. CMU or equivalent experience is a prerequisite. Please note that we do not offer sponsorship for employment visas for this position. Carnegie Mellon does not qualify for the STEM OPT benefit, and only the 12-month OPT is permissible for working at Carnegie Mellon.
