Job Description

Financial Aid Specialist

Join a team that makes a difference in the lives of thousands of students. The BYU Financial Aid Office is looking for Financial Aid Specialists who are detail-oriented, student-focused, and ready to contribute to a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

About the Role

Financial Aid Specialists play a key role in guiding students through the federal financial aid process. From evaluating FAFSA applications to resolving discrepancies and providing critical support to students and families, this role blends compliance, service, and collaboration.

You'll respond to student inquiries, process documentation, award aid packages, and help maintain institutional and federal compliance. As you grow in the role, there's potential for advancement and a pay increase based on demonstrated competency.

What you will be doing in this position

Reviewing & Processing Aid Applications

• Evaluate FAFSA data and supporting documents (tax returns, etc.)
• Verify information and resolve discrepancies
• Update and correct aid data as needed

Student & Campus Support

• Respond to student questions via Salesforce or phone
• Guide students through aid requirements and eligibility
• Collaborate with Enrollment Services, professors, and other institutions
• Participate in office and university committees

Calculating & Managing Aid

• Determine eligibility for Pell Grants, loans, and other aid
• Monitor and adjust aid awards based on enrollment changes or withdrawals
• Resolve issues with awarding or disbursement

Training & Compliance

• Stay up-to-date with changing federal financial aid regulations
• Participate in regular trainings and professional development
• Assist in creating internal training and process documentation

Special Projects

• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts
• Support special initiatives and serve on project teams

What qualifies you for this role

Minimum Requirements

• At least 3 years of work or study at a higher education institution

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• 2–3 years of financial aid experience

Pay Grade: 48

Typical Starting Pay: $20.00-$25.75 ($41,600-$53,560)
