Associate Vice President, Office of the President

The Associate Vice President (AVP) serves as the chief administrative officer for the Office of the President, reporting directly to the President. This individual is responsible for ensuring the effective management of the President’s operations, acting as the primary liaison to the Board of Trustees, and advancing the university’s strategic priorities through proactive communications, government relations, and public relations. The AVP plays a critical role in representing the Office of the President to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the President’s agenda is advanced with efficiency, discretion, and impact.

Office of the President Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day management of the Office of the President, including staff supervision, workflow optimization, and operational effectiveness.
  • Directly supervise the Administrative Coordinator, who in turn supervises two Graduate Assistants.
  • Manage the President’s calendar, priorities, and follow-up processes to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement office policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure smooth functioning and confidentiality.
  • Work in partnership with the Divisional Vice Presidents and the Executive Vice President/Provost, supporting the President’s Cabinet in advancing institutional priorities, facilitating communication, and ensuring effective coordination between the Office of the President and senior leadership.

Board Liaison

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Trustees, coordinating meeting agendas, materials, and logistics.
  • Facilitate communication between the President and Board members, ensuring timely follow-up on decisions and action items.
  • Maintain accurate records of Board activities in compliance with governance best practices.
  • Oversee the onboarding and orientation of new Trustees, ensuring they are well-informed about the University’s mission, governance structure, strategic priorities, and their roles and responsibilities as Board members.

Strategic Communications

  • Partner with the President to develop and deliver messaging aligned with the University’s Mission, Vision and strategic priorities.
  • Prepare speeches, remarks, presentations, and written communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with marketing and public relations firm to enhance the President’s visibility and voice across media platforms.

Government Relations and External Affairs

  • Serve as a key point of contact with local, state, and federal government officials and agencies.
  • Monitor legislative and policy developments relevant to the University.
  • Coordinate the President’s participation in government and community events, fostering strong external relationships.

Public Relations and Community Engagement

  • Represent the Office of the President in public forums, community meetings, and strategic partnerships as directed by the President.
  • Work closely with university leadership to manage sensitive or high-profile issues with discretion and strategic judgment.

Presidential Events & Advisory Council Coordination

  • Provide leadership and oversight for presidential events, with a special focus on functions hosted at the President’s residence, ensuring all activities are executed to the highest standard and reflect the University’s mission, values, and hospitality.
  • Coordinate event planning, logistics, and execution in collaboration with appropriate campus partners, including development of guest lists, agendas, speaking notes, and post-event follow-up.
  • Ensure a visible presence and active participation at key presidential events, representing the Office of the President with professionalism and discretion.
  • Assist in the coordination of the President’s Advisory Council (PAC), including scheduling, agenda development, presentation preparation, and ensuring seamless meeting execution.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, urban planning, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership in facilities, planning, auxiliary services, housing and residence life, student conduct, and crisis management.
  • Strong knowledge of student development, Title IX, conduct processes, campus planning, and auxiliary operations.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership skills.
