THE ROLE
The Full-Stack Java, Spring, and Next.js Technical Director - Lead is a senior-level technical leader responsible for overseeing the design, development, and delivery of an eCommerce platform tailored to the Sports and Hospitality industry. This individual plays a key role in driving technical excellence, mentoring engineers, and fostering an Agile, collaborative, and innovative team environment while ensuring the platform meets the unique demands of eCommerce engineering and integrations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leads and mentors a team of engineers in developing and maintaining a robust, scalable, and secure eCommerce platform for the Sports and Hospitality industry.
Oversees the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
Applies MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless) principles to build modular, scalable, and high-performing eCommerce systems.
Guides the team in full-stack development using Java, Spring Framework, and Next.js, ensuring seamless integration between front-end and back-end components.
Architects and implements integrations with third-party eCommerce services, payment gateways, CRM systems, and other platforms relevant to Sports and Hospitality.
Champions best practices for remote work, fostering effective communication, collaboration, and productivity across distributed teams.
Drives the adoption of Agile development methodologies, ensuring timely and iterative delivery of high-quality features and improvements.
Collaborates with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet both business and customer needs.
Provides technical mentorship and career guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence.
Evaluates and integrates emerging technologies to enhance the eCommerce platform’s capabilities and market competitiveness.
Ensures platform reliability, performance, and security, leveraging cloud services from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all Legends & ASM policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in full-stack development using Java, Spring, TypeScript, and Next.js.
At least 3 years of proven experience leading engineering teams, with a focus on remote collaboration and mentorship.
Significant experience in eCommerce engineering, including designing and building scalable eCommerce platforms and implementing complex integrations with third-party tools and services.
Expertise in MACH principles, enabling the design of modular, API-driven, and cloud-native eCommerce solutions.
Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining platforms hosted on Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon AWS.
Demonstrated success working within Agile software development methodologies, promoting iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, design, QA, and business stakeholders.
A commitment to mentoring and developing engineers, fostering a high-performance and growth-oriented team culture.
Skills and Abilities
In-depth understanding of the Sports and Hospitality industry’s unique eCommerce needs and challenges.
Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of modern front-end frameworks and tools beyond Next.js.
Experience optimizing front-end and backend response times for best-in-class user experience
COMPENSATION
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401k plan.
Range: $150,000-$200,000
