Senior Cost Accountant - Government Contracting
Skills
- Deep knowledge of FAR/DFARS and DCAA audit requirements
- Experience with labor distribution and timekeeping systems
- Multi-state payroll processing and federal tax filings (940, 941, W-2/W-3)
- Proficiency with ERP payroll/cost accounting systems (Deltek Costpoint, PROCAS, Unanet, ADP, etc.)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and analytical skills
- Experience preparing audit-ready payroll and labor documentation
- Understanding of FLSA exempt/non-exempt classifications and payroll compliance
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate labor distribution aligned to FAR cost principles and DCAA guidelines
- Review and process timesheets and maintain audit trails for DCAA compliance
- Perform bi-weekly reconciliations between labor distribution and payroll outputs
- Investigate and resolve timecard corrections and compensation issues
- Support DCAA and internal audits with compensation analysis and documentation
- Administer multi-state payroll, tax filings (Forms 940, 941, W-2/W-3) and workers' compensation classifications
- Set up employee payroll/labor distribution profiles and provide timekeeping training during onboarding
- Support payroll system integrations, data validation, testing, and mapping of labor cost elements
- Maintain payroll journal entries, accruals, and support financial statement preparation
- Contribute to indirect rates development and allocation of fringe, overhead, and G&A pools
- Provide monthly reconciliation and reporting of payroll liabilities within ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, PROCAS)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Relevant certifications (CPA) or advanced degree (preferred)
