Skills
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
- Proficient in CAD (any platform) and producing high-quality engineering drawings
- Knowledge and practice of battery safety for handling, storage, assembly, and operation
- Hands-on fabrication and prototyping skills
- Ownership of assembly design and validation through complete product cycles
- Experience designing components for machining, casting, sheet metal, and injection molding
- Ability to define and direct analysis and testing to collect design-driving data
- Experience deriving component requirements from system requirements and managing requirement tradeoffs
- Exposure to structural/mechanical systems and lithium-ion battery systems; high-energy/high-voltage experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally
- Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Own hardware design from concept generation through production release
- Design for safety, reliability, usability, and manufacturability
- Use first-principles and data-driven decision making to guide designs
- Lead design reviews, perform analysis, and define/execute hardware test plans
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, iterate designs, and transition successful projects into production
- Work with vendors, visit suppliers, and support procurement decisions
- Travel to test sites as needed to support validation and field testing
Education
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (required)
- Advanced degree in engineering is a plus but not required
