- Credentialed veterinary technician license (CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT) in practice location
- Proven ability to perform IV access, anesthesia monitoring, and complex nursing procedures
- Familiarity with emergency diagnostics, point-of-care testing, and diagnostic imaging
- Comfortable administering and monitoring CRIs and transfusion therapy
- Strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency with practice management and EMR systems
- Physical stamina to stand for prolonged periods and safely lift and handle patients/equipment
Responsibilities
- Provide basic to advanced nursing care, treatments, monitoring, and patient assessments in emergency cases
- Triage incoming patients using clinical assessment and monitoring parameters
- Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications and manage IV fluid therapy and CRIs
- Prepare, induce, monitor, and recover patients under general anesthesia, including mechanically ventilated patients when needed
- Perform and troubleshoot oxygen administration and supportive devices (oxygen cages, nasal oxygen, etc.)
- Collect samples and run point-of-care diagnostics and diagnostic imaging
- Place and maintain urinary catheters, nasoenteral tubes, chest and abdominal drains, and other nursing devices
- Perform advanced vascular access (jugular, arterial, intraosseous) and assist with blood transfusion therapy
- Participate in patient rounds and coordinate continuity of care with the veterinary team
- Coach and guide veterinary assistants and technicians, and contribute to training and quality standards
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in Texas
- Ongoing continuing education; VTS certification considered a plus
