This full-time Medical Assistant, Bilingual (English and Spanish) position is located at Children’s Wellness Center, 5301-H Ross Road, Del Valle, TX 78617. Our regular clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional weekend hours as needed.

Purpose

The School of Nursing Children’s Wellness Center is seeking a friendly and organized Bilingual Medical Assistant (fluent in English and Spanish) to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for the safety, comfort, direct care, and treatment of patients from birth through 21 years of age and for the provision of patient care based on standard practices of the profession and special instructions from licensed professional staff.

Responsibilities                         

  • Supports patient care by performing visit intake, CLIA waived testing, prepares and administers medications (oral and intramuscular), immunizations and/or treatments as prescribed by a health care provider under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, or physician.

  • Supports discharge process of patients at the end of each visit by providing instructions and counseling to patients to include medications and laboratory test procedures and records in medical file.

  • Responsible for assisting in the implementation and follow up of individual care plans for patients.

  • Triages patient calls, delivering interventions and accurately recording communication in the medical record.

  • Ensures that all instruments and supplies are present in clinical areas. Maintains a clean and hygienic environment. Supports the training of students and volunteers.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation. Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for medical treatment.

  • Adherence to the highest ethical, legal, and health care standards.

  • Accuracy in all phases of work performed including following written and verbal instructions. Tact, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality of medical information are required in all matters.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, and patients.

  • Maintain a professional appearance, reliable attendance, and courteous demeanor.

  • Serve as a front desk receptionist back-up. Answer clinic phones, schedule patient appointments and make reminder calls. Maintain confidential patient documents. Inputs and retrieves medical information and files as needed. Provide information regarding eligibility for services and register patients. Evaluates incoming mail, reports, or inquiries and distributes. Receive payment from clients, record and issue receipts.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program.

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English (spoken and written) required.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a clinic setting performing Medical Assistant related duties required.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with EHR systems such as EPIC or Athenahealth.

  • Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Strong administrative skills, including medical records management and patient service.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant Certification

  • One (1) or more years of front desk receptionist experience; healthcare or pediatric clinic experience preferred but not required.

Salary Range

$34,320 annual

Working Conditions
