Job Details:
The Population Research Center is seeking a Grants and Contracts Manager. This position has an end date of 08/31/2027, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.
The Grants and Contracts Manager plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Population Research Center by overseeing all aspects of research funding management, and both pre- and post-award activities. This position ensures the effective, compliant administration of grants and contracts, enabling the department to successfully apply for, utilize, and report on its research portfolio. Through this work, the manager directly contributes to advancing impactful research and innovation in the population sciences.
Support faculty, graduate students, and other research staff at each stage of their proposal submission including preparing budgets, budget justifications and other non-scientific sections of grant applications. Coordinate with OSP as needed on pre-award functions, which may include grant budgeting, modifications, and others support or JIT requests.
Manage all aspects of research accounting for grants including monitoring post-award activities to ensure compliance for cost transfers, budget revisions/adjustments, and reporting, including assisting principal investigators with sponsor reports. Monitor account balances as needed, and coordinate costing allocation updates as required.
Perform financial reporting activities, including quarterly financial reports, and quarterly specialized reporting for sponsored projects and other unit research accounts as needed. Develop new reports as requested.
Work with research faculty and support staff to review and analyze research funding accounts with regular frequency to address spending rates, staff allocations, and funding period forecasts.
Oversee administration of subcontract pre- and post-award activities, including coordinating issuance of and modifications to subawards, deliverables tracking as needed, invoice review and issues, and payment coordination.
Support faculty and research staff in preparing and submitting post-submission materials such as prior approval requests, credit requests, LOAs, RPPRs, no cost extensions and budget revisions in a timely manner.
Support faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows as well as research project staff with processing of all data use agreements, negotiated awards, and unfunded agreements with OSP. Create, review and submit DUAs, CDCPs, and other non-funded agreements.
Serve as backup to Assistant Director of Research and Training and Assistant Director and Assistant Director of Financial and Business Services.
Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience at the Accountant III or Systems Analyst level with responsibility for accounting systems.
Minimum five years of experience in research administration or a related field.
Strong organizational, administrative, time management and critical thinking skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Committed to providing high-quality customer service to faculty and staff.

Effective working independently in a high-volume, fast-paced office with minimal supervision.
Self-starter with strong ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
Experienced in project management, including budget planning and oversight.
Familiar with UT Austin and university operations.
Certified Research Administrator (CRA).
Proficient in Workday, DEFINE, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, and UTRMS; familiar with eRA Commons and Research.gov.
Knowledgeable about UT policies, systems, and procedures.
Experience with purchasing and managing graduate student appointments.
$78,000+ depending on qualifications
