Software Developer Engineer

Job Description:

About Seattle Pacific University and Information Technology (IT)

Seattle Pacific University (SPU) is a mission-driven, nationally ranked Christian university in the heart of Seattle, committed to engaging the culture and changing the world. Information Technology oversees SPU’s software and infrastructure systems, servers, network, and telecommunications. IT also provides technology-related support for SPU faculty, staff, and students. This on-campus position is central to ensuring smooth daily operations, technology innovation, and excellence in service delivery for the university and its external partners.

Position Summary

We are seeking a versatile, mission-driven Software Developer Engineer to join our small but dynamic IT team. At SPU, every team member wears multiple hats—collaborating across disciplines, learning new technologies, and mentoring others. This on -campus role is ideal for a developer who thrives on curiosity, embraces challenges, and is eager to grow into a Microsoft platform expert while also bringing hands-on ERP and/or SIS integration experience to the institution.

This is not a narrow coding role—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of SPU’s technology ecosystem, elevate team excellence, and serve the university’s mission with creativity, grit, and faith.

Key Responsibilities

  • Microsoft Platform Development & Integration
    • Design, build, and maintain solutions leveraging Azure, Power Apps, Fabric, Entra, and related Microsoft technologies.
    • Serve as a champion for modern development practices, helping the team adopt and master Microsoft’s evolving ecosystem.
  • ERP Expertise
    • Develop and maintain system integrations and configurations with ERP platforms, develop custom reports, implement ERP identity and access management (IAM) and security configurations.
    • Partner with HR, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure SPU ERP solution and configuration align with institutional needs.
  • Database & Data Services
    • Work with both relational (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL databases to design, optimize, and support data-driven applications.
    • Contribute towards data integration and reporting strategies across university platforms.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship
    • Share knowledge generously, mentor colleagues, and foster a culture of continuous learning and teaching.
    • Translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Innovation & Growth
    • Demonstrate a “learn and be curious” mindset, proactively mastering new tools and technologies.
    • Grow into SPU’s Microsoft Software Development Expert, with support and investment from the institution.

What You Bring

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Math, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years in systems engineering, software development, or administration.
    • Proven ability to quickly contribute to enterprise ERP optimization and integration projects, leveraging prior hands-on experience with ERP system configurations, integrations, and reporting. Experience developing or implementing ERP systems business workflows and solutions to address organizational needs.
    • Understanding of ERP systems capabilities and limitations, with a practical approach to collaborating across teams and filling knowledge gaps. Demonstrated success supporting IT departments in optimizing and troubleshooting enterprise systems and environments, including ERP systems.
    • Proficiency with operating systems and platforms (Linux, Windows Server, Azure), databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL), and programming/scripting languages (C#, Python, Java, PowerShell).
  • Skills:
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Experience with DevOps practices, application software development, systems integration, and customer service.
    • Passionate about mentoring and lifting others.
  • Mission Alignment:
    • A personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm for supporting SPU’s mission, alignment with the University’s Statement of Faith, and willingness to uphold lifestyle standards of the Christian community.
    • A commitment to live out your faith through service, integrity, and collaboration within the SPU community.

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in software development with modern languages and frameworks.
  • Experience with ERP systems integrations, custom reporting, and security configuration.
  • Strong understanding of databases (both relational and NoSQL).
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a passion for teaching and mentoring others.
  • Commitment to working in an on-campus position.

Preferred

  • Azure or database certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Oracle DB, MS SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with authentication systems (Azure AD, MFA), web application frameworks (React, Angular, Blazor), and Office365 administration.
  • Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), modern deployment pipelines, and enterprise software systems.
  • Experience with Workday. Especially Workday Studio integrations, reporting, and security.
  • Familiarity with integration services and enterprise-scale data flows.
  • Prior experience in higher education or nonprofit environments.

What We’re Looking For

We recognize that the perfect candidate may not exist. If you bring ERP (i.e., Workday) expertise and the drive to master Microsoft technologies, or if you’re already strong in Microsoft cloud-first development approach and eager to grow your ERP skills, we want to hear from you. What matters most is your grit, curiosity, and commitment to excellence.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $85,000 – $105,000 DOE
  • Excellent benefits package, including:
    • Medical, dental, and vision premiums fully paid by SPU for employees.
    • 7% retirement contribution (immediately vested), no matching required.
